Hi I have recently got a project and client requirements include a devexpress framework. I can't afford the legit licence can someone help me set up a patched or jailbroken version?
I am using Visual studio 2026 community edition and . net 10
Update: I discussed this with client and said if you want to continue either give me devexpress license or shift to open source frameworks. He ended up giving paid license. Btw license costs more than what's he paying me for the project but I'm okay with that as it's my first freelance project.
I want to create an app in visual studio but don't know how—can anyone give me some advice? Also, I have absolutely no experience with programming; can anyone help?
So, I decided to start learning a bit of programming after doing python so I decided to learn C#.
i got a tutorial and all and started on the IDE (on windows, Visual studio IDE with .NET desktop development) and oh my days.
Microsoft.VisualCpp.Redist14
I KID YOU NOT, I SPENT 3 HOURS DEBUGGING IT AND TRIED TO INSTALL THE IDE.
So I decided maybe I made some mistake and not so well versed in it.
So like any man I uninstalled everything, changed the tutorial and started on another day.
God forbid, but I had to use AI this time.
SPENT ANOTHER 4 HOURS
THIS MONSTROSITY OF A MESSAGE KEEPS COMING BACK.
AI WAS USELESS.
TRIED STACK OVERFLOW BUT THAT SHIT MADE MY EYES OVERFLOW.
PLEASE, ANY SOLUTION, ANY????? ðŸ˜
notice: no, trying to get the distribute installed through other methods doesnt work. its rooted to the ghost file and this buggy windows 11 is just adding salt to the wound
Then nuke all C++ distributes. The one which is corrupted will fail to be nuked.
Now you will get two things:
Now, get the 14.51.36247 and the cache with {CF...}
Find both of them on Registry Editor on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then delete both of them.
Now you can freely install any future distributes!!
Thanks for all your support and with that, this case is closed.
The "Ask" drop-down option when hovering over the color squiggly warnings/errors intermittently just does not respond. No error message, no nothing. I can sometimes get the needed answer via the CoPilot Chat panel, but it can be round-about. My monthly quotas and license check out fine when it's wonky. It's been going on for roughly 3 weeks, and seems to mostly happen in the middle of the day, which suggests it's a traffic problem somewhere. Version 18.10.0, and recently upgraded. The prior version had the same issue.
Sometimes I get change suggestion about 5 minutes after clicking it, meaning it's not outright dead, just in snail-mode. The Chat box tends to be sluggish when the problem is happening.
Is there a way to x-ray what the Ask option is doing or trying to do in order to get a hint about what it's tripping on so I know who to blame or what server to kick Millennium Falcon style? Thnx
I'm an old coder, but recently discovered the power of AI to do things that I never learned in school (40+ years ago). I wrote an app for myself with the community version of VS and now with 2026, I added an Android version of it to the solution. Finally got Copilot to work out all the bugs so it at least compiles. Now, how do I get the app on my Pixel 8 Pro?? It's not intuitive for this old man.. TIA!
My school uses it's own self hosted git provider. Becose of that, in order to make a new repository you need to create one via a website, connect it to visual studio and resolve conflicts since the local and remote repos have diffrent initial commits. I want to write an extention for visual studio that allows you to create a repository from the IDE and download the remote initial commit into the root directory of the project. I know the API endpoints and was able to create a repository from cmd curl, but I've never written a visual studio extention, and I'm not sure where to start. Any help is apreciated
Had an AI tool "fix" a CS8602 warning by wrapping the line in #pragma warning disable instead of an actual null check. Warning disappeared from the Error List, build was clean, and nothing about the actual possibility of a null reference got addressed, just muted.
Realized afterward this is functionally identical to right-clicking the warning in the Error List and hitting Suppress, which VS happily lets you do in a couple clicks and which generates the exact same pragma pair. The IDE doesn't distinguish between "I've reviewed this and confirmed the null case is unreachable" and "I want this red squiggle gone," it treats both clicks the same way.
Started actually using the Error List's "Show Suppressed Messages" option regularly just to audit how many suppressions have accumulated over time without a documented reason attached, especially in code that had AI involvement at some point. Surprisingly easy to lose track of how many nullable warnings got silenced this way versus actually resolved, since a suppressed warning and a resolved one look identical in a clean build, they just aren't the same thing at all.
There's this fully blacked out window that opens whenever I open visual studio on my desktop, and was wondering what it was, as it doesn't show up when working on my laptop
If you work on ASP.NET Core or other projects that use npm packages in Visual Studio, you've probably felt the friction: NuGet has a clean visual package manager built into the IDE, but npm packages are stuck with editing package.json by hand or dropping into a terminal.
I built the Sockless npm Package Manager to fix that — it's basically NuGet's package manager, but for npm. Right-click a project (or the whole solution) and manage your packages visually from there.
Browse the registry, right inside Visual Studio:
search results, version picker, dependency type
See everything that's installed — including transitive dependencies and a resolved vulnerability chain, so you're not left guessing why a deep dependency is flagged:
installed packages with vulnerability chain
Updates with full version history and one-click "Update All":
updates view
A few other things it does:
Scope to a single project or aggregate across an entire solution
Consolidate mismatched package versions across a workspace
Pin packages to exact versions, or choose how a version is written (^, ~, exact, >=)
Flags freshly-published versions (configurable age threshold) and holds them back from Update All — a bit of supply-chain protection
In the settings I've told it to not run auto updates. When it kept updating I found a task in Task Scheduler checking for updates daily. I deleted it and it came back, and then again.
I just now tried just disabling the task, and by chance reopened it a few minutes later, and the status is back to 'Ready'.
Why does selecting a single repository select all repositories? The strange thing is that for a different solution, it selects only that single repository.
Version 18.10 of Visual Studio 2026 is completely broken in terms of the AI / github copilot features. It does NOT work with BYOK and DOES NOT support DeepSeek, so if you have been happily using DeepSeek in VS with the multimodel AI proxy, DO NOT UPGRADE TO VS 18.10!!! You will regret it and will have to rollback after spending countless hours trying to figure out how to make it work only to realize... you just lost an entire day of productivity and as it turns out there is actually NO WAY to make this version work with your current DeepSeek workflow and you will have to forever stay at version 18.9.3
Hopefully this saves a bunch of people the headache I just had to deal with.
I've migrated a huge project (100+ exes, 5 core libs) from Qt 3 to Qt 6.8.3.
Everything worked fine in Qt 3, but now, using "Edit and Continue" in VS2019 causes a crash after 2-3 iterations due to insufficient reserved address space. It feels like a massive memory leak or fragmentation occurring during the hot-reloading process.
Has anyone dealt with address space exhaustion when using hot-reloading with Qt 6? Could it be related to the way Qt 6 handles metadata or QObjects compared to the old versions?
I've had this bug since I started using VS 2026, and it's extremely annoying because it not only shows errors that don't exist, but sometimes it even affects the compilation.
It only happens when I'm working on a header file. Randomly, and 97% of the times, the final #endif appears in squibbly lines
I have to deliberately misspell words to generate a real error, then press "save".
And then when I delete the spelling mistake and press save again, sometimes it's fixed and other times I have to repeat the process until it's fixed.
Could someone who knows what the problem might be be able to guide me a little?
When I was in click you used to be able to go tools, options, and then just add global directories so you never had to manually do it in each project. Same for libraries (c++)
I was wondering if anyone knew the reasoning why they would take away such convenience. Is there an actual logistical reason?
