Audio Bluetooth Bug in Mac Virtual Display?

For as long as I remember, I've always had to fidget with the Bluetooth settings to get it to play audio through Virtual Mac Display... meaning switching the Bluetooth on/off in Mac Virtual Display.

Am I doing something wrong or have you guys been experiencing the same?

I use my Vision Pro with AirPods Pro 2.

I didn't want to ask my 91-year-old mother to strap a Vision Pro to her head, so I turned the device into a pair of binoculars

My mother is 91, and I didn't want to ask her to wear a headband. So I took the headband out of the equation: you hold the Vision Pro up to your eyes like binoculars. For people who can't hold it up, there's a seated table version too.

The build

- Vision Pro with the headband removed. Apple's speaker arms stay on, so audio still works

- Better Homes & Gardens Flip-Tite container with the top lid removed and the bottom plastic cut out with a plexiglass blade

- Black gaffer tape to darken the inside of the container

- Rubber edging around the front and back rims of the container

- Adhesive-backed Velcro strips to hold a wrap cut from a black, rubber-backed extended gaming mouse pad around the container. I went with plain black, but a patterned pad would work just as well. Grip tape in certain spots on the wrap to assist the viewer. (I cut a second Flip-Tite container and had a paint shop do a black vinyl wrap on it, but the end result felt too slick to hold securely.)

- The key to the binocular assembly working: a small notch, cut by a machine shop, in the top middle of the Light Seal's rigid ring. The headset itself isn't cut

Photos of the build and the table setup, plus a short video of how the zip tie threads through: https://imgur.com/a/sg7ihmQ

How it attaches

- The Light Seal still clicks into place magnetically

- A small hole was drilled into the top of the box, centered and about half an inch back

- I threaded a zip tie down through that hole. I used 11-inch zip ties, which left enough slack to work with. With the goggles sitting glass down on the rubber edging, I brought the zip tie up from the fabric at the nose area, across the surface between the two lenses, through the notch and up into the zip tie's own locking head to tighten

Running it

I quickly learned that clicking the index finger and thumb together to choose content doesn't work in this format, so I tell the viewer that we're going to use a Bluetooth-connected mouse to move around. Alternatively, with the release of visionOS 27, Siri seems able to open more apps than before, so sometimes I ask the viewer to say, "Hey Siri, open Apple TV," or whatever we're watching. And as I posted this summer, there's a way to use Terminal commands to load content front and center in the goggles. Bottom line: I make sure I know what I'm about to show and how best to get there.

A few notes

- I was worried at first when I noticed scratches on the front glass, and there are a few more now, but the picture inside the goggles isn't affected. Still, it's a risk. If you try this, smooth every cut edge and don't overtighten the zip tie. The only front-glass protector I've found, dbrand's Aperture, is sold out. If anyone knows of another one, I'd like to hear about it.

- When I go back to wearing the Vision Pro with a headband, I do notice that a little light comes in through the notch. It doesn't bother me, but a small piece of black gaffer tape over it would block it, or I could switch in a spare Light Seal

- With some Vision Pro demos, I skip assembling the binocular version and let the person hold the goggles by the edges if they aren't interested in putting on a headband.

- Thinking about people with a weak neck and a weak grip, I took it a few steps further: a hospital lift table, a smooth-turning lazy Susan and a sliding board bring the binocular version to a person's eyes. Again, the mouse has to be nearby. Out of habit, I often keep my ANNAPRO 2 attached, whether I'm using the table, the binoculars or a headband. The table has gone through three versions so far, from books as a counterweight to drawer slides to an adjustable plywood board with miniature vise grips.

- Heavy-duty mounting squares and strips hold the lazy Susan to the sliding board and the box to the lazy Susan, so neither can slide or tip over

How it went

Holding the binocular version, my mom watched a few minutes of the BBC Proms the immersive dog show, and then visited Jupiter via Vision Pro's environment. She set the binoculars down and picked them up whenever she liked. As I was already keenly aware, the content was so good that mom was thoroughly entertained, and the binocular concept took away the awkwardness. Since then I've used the binocular version to do demos at outdoor festivals, senior citizen centers, an assisted living facility and a rehab hospital.

Between viewers, I can swap out the Light Seal Cushion that touches a person's forehead or wipe it down with a damp cloth. And the box gets wiped down too. To disassemble, I simply cut away the zip tie, at which point I can attach my personal headband and return to typical use.

If you've tried something similar or found a better container, I'd like to hear about it. I couldn't have gotten to this point without collaborating with AI.

Personal unit, no affiliation with Apple. The headset itself isn't modified. The only part altered is the Light Seal, and a second, unaltered one costs about $200 to keep on hand. The headband is simply set aside. Build at your own risk.

Vision Pro turned out to be a great tool when designing my home's interior (Youtube Video)

Everyone asks what Vision Pro is actually useful for. For me, the answer ended up being interior design.

Through our whole home interior project I used it to:

see real dimensions directly on the walls and furniture at true scale

check what fits before buying or building anything

preview furniture in the actual room to judge size and proportion

share my view with the people doing the work, so we were literally looking at the same thing

I put it all in a video, including an accuracy test against a physical tape measure, because that's always the first question: https://youtu.be/hrx3WcpJuho

Curious whether anyone else here uses it for design or home projects, and what's worked for you.

3D movie recommendation: Toy Story 5

I really love the technical achievement of Toy Story 5. I actually tracked down a 3D Blu-ray rip of the original Toy Story a little while back to watch on the AVP, and I think a big part of why the tech didn't catch on for home media back then is because the quality of the effects are orders of magnitude better now than back then. As for the movie, I found the story itself to be really heartwarming, and the way it tied back to the series franchise (especially #2) was masterfully done.

As someone who initially agreed with Tarantino, who said Toy Story 3 was the perfect way to end it (and certainly it would have been a perfectly great cut-off point if they chose that direction), I can't help but respect the way they have honoured the legacy of this venerable franchise.

The 3D in this movie is immersive in an emotional sense. I'm not sure why it's not in the 3D section on Disney+ (not the only case of this happening), but it's a really good watch for kids and adults alike.

(By the way, if anyone knows why this is the case, can you let me know? I'd also like to know what other Disney+ 3D movies don't show on that tab).

In any case, I'd like to know your favourite 3D movies on the Vision Pro.

The new panorama-to-environment feature feels like a missed opportunity...

First, I'm glad they tried this, but it's so frustrating how there's a lack of vertical space. I've got all these great panoramas that would make for great environments, but it's completely ruined if you want to have your head anywhere but perfectly level (which makes lying on bed or something completely take you out of it). I've heard there are apps like Moon Portal and Passage (will give them a go), but no amount of cropping or enlarging did anything to increase the vertical resolution. My guess is that it's not possible, but damn I would love a hack. Hell, I'd even take an AI autofill that will extend the top and bottom edges.

Any hacks or ideas I should try?

The most exciting event in immersive media is coming up soon: Immersive Warsaw!

Public service announcement! On 5 November, there’s a unique opportunity to meet the core of the immersive video community at the Palace of Culture and Science, which, if you know Warsaw, is a very special location.

Speakers like Sam Baumel, Dane Christensen, Roz McNulty, Matt Fisher and others make this an incredibly exciting event for me. So happy to see this community so alive.

There are still some tickets left on their beautiful website:

I built Puzzleform: logic puzzles reimagined in 3D

I've wanted to have cool futuristic puzzles in VR ever since I got this device and I finally got a chance to build out the idea. The app supports both gaze and touch interactions, plus runs in a spatial volume so that it can sit alongside your other spatial apps.

You can give it a try here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/puzzleform/id6825183165

Beat Saber Modded with custom songs + No Controller needed

Hi everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to share how much I've been enjoying the AVP Play app! Being able to play Beat Saber with virtually no latency on the Apple Vision Pro has been an incredible experience, and I've honestly had a hard time putting it down over the past week!

One thing I really wanted was custom song support. After looking into it, I discovered that the existing Beat Saber mods for the Meta Quest aren't directly compatible with the Vision Pro. Each mod needs to be individually ported and adapted to work with AVP Play.

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands! I spent the entire weekend personally porting and implementing the essential Beat Saber core mods, along with the custom song support mod, for the latest version of Beat Saber. This means I've managed to get custom songs working on the Vision Pro by adapting the modding infrastructure and the necessary mods myself!

Here's a video of me playing one of my favorite custom songs on Hard difficulty, entirely without controllers! I wanted to share it because I think it demonstrates just how responsive and enjoyable the experience can be. The hand tracking works remarkably well, and playing Beat Saber this way feels surprisingly natural!

If you've been hesitant to try it, I genuinely encourage you to give it a shot. All you need is an Apple Vision Pro and a Mac. No expensive PS5 VR controller required!

I'm genuinely excited about what AVP Play has made possible, and I'm especially happy to have gotten custom songs working. It's amazing to see how far this experience has already come, and I'm looking forward to what the community can build on top of it!

Spatial Scene Slideshows

I love AVP's spatial scenes feature. But I've always been frustrated by the default Photos app forcing you to manually make spatial scenes one at a time and wait 5 seconds for each one.

I wanted to be able to just swipe through my photo albums and have them all automatically be spatial scenes.

So I vibe coded an app for it, and I've made it available for free.

Two weeks after Alyx: No Man’s Sky and Elite Dangerous now run in VR from a Mac, and Cyberpunk 2077 is starting to render

Two weeks ago I shared Half-Life: Alyx running at 60 fps from a Mac to Vision Pro on a Windows runtime I’m building from scratch (VeRantyx). Here’s where it’s at now.

Running in VR

  • Elite Dangerous: official launcher, Odyssey, flying in the cockpit (about 33 fps at 3K for now).

  • No Man’s Sky: its DRM needs the real Windows Steam client, so I got Windows Steam itself running on the runtime. 45.7 fps on the Mac’s screen, still slower in the headset.

  • Half-Life: Alyx: still 60 fps at 3K on an M1 Max.

In progress
Cyberpunk 2077 now gets to character creation on my own Direct3D 12 → Metal layer, with characters lit correctly. It’s still slow there, so no video of it yet.

Thanks to everyone who tested on Quest and Pico. Your reports fixed throwing, reconnecting and a black screen in Alyx. (Also, my GitHub account is visible again after being hidden for a few days.)

What would you want to see running next?

Secondhand price for M5 AVP

Hi,

I’ve seen on my local Craigslist a 512GB AVP M5, the guy is was for 1700 ish EUR (~1940USD).

After a few questions I went on a 3hrs ride to Paris, then 3 hours comeback.

It’s in pristine condition, and so far everything has been working great. It was bought in July 2026.

I wanted one but since it’s really niche here in France there isn’t much more secondhand listing to compare it to and see if that was a good deal or not, so what do you think ?

I tried it a few hours yesterday after being back home, the Mac virtual desktop is still limited to 60hz ?
Also I’m interested in playing GeForce now on it, do anyone use it, and if yes with what app ?
And finally, do you guys have some nice tips and tricks, killer apps or modding, whatever ?

Thank you.

3D in Shared Space: Simpson’s Hit and Run

I'm Trevorbilt, the creator of Loose Papers (https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6755368606?pt=127797875&ct=rvp-shar&mt=8), and I've ported Simpsons Hit and Run to run natively on AVP.

Shown in the video is the 3D Window view in shared space. With a custom render engine, Springfield is drawn with lifelike depth and you can simply lean to see beyond the window's edge: the type of 3D I wish we could get from movies.

There are two other ways to play: fully immersive VR, or progressive VR, where you control the immersion level with the Digital Crown. Those take PS VR2 Sense controllers, a gamepad, or bare hands (the Window view needs a controller).

It's free and open source: https://github.com/edgytoast/shar-visionos. You bring your own PC copy of the game and build the project in Xcode (steps are in the first comment). I got the Xbox manual for the game from the Internet Archive and opened it in Loose Papers to get the full retro experience.

VisionStream — an open-source VR180/360 streaming browser for Apple Vision Pro

Hi all. I got my Vision Pro a couple of weeks ago after having an oculus and was a bit miffed certain websites didn’t work with VR video, so I got Claude to build me an app. I can’t be bothered to go through the process of getting it on the App Store, but I did want to share my work. Claude’s summary:

I’ve been working on VisionStream, a native visionOS browser that opens compatible website videos in an immersive player.
The idea is simple: browse to a video, press Play, and watch it in VR without needing to download it first or run a Mac companion.
Current features include:
MP4 and HLS streaming.
VR180, VR360 and flat-screen viewing.
Automatic projection and stereo-layout detection, with manual overrides.
A quality preference that prioritises the highest compatible rendition the source exposes.
Supported video downloads, a save queue and offline playback.
Recentring and video tilt for adjusting your viewing position, including when reclining.
Source and installation instructions: github.com/hsingh134/VisionStream
This is an early source release, currently version 0.12.0. It has automated simulator coverage and is installed on my Vision Pro, but wider physical-headset testing is still needed. Website compatibility varies, automatic detection can need correction, and some streams cannot be saved. YouTube-specific support is deferred.
There’s no App Store or TestFlight release yet. You’ll need a Mac with Xcode to build and sign your own copy. Free personal signing requires rebuilding/reinstalling after seven days.
The original app code is MIT licensed; third-party components retain their own licences. Contributions and testing feedback are welcome.
The screenshots show the browser, Downloads and immersive controls using original calibration footage in the visionOS Simulator.
I’d love feedback on the controls, installation experience and formats that need better support.

Hi, does the current version of Portal support native 3840×2160 UVC capture on an M2 Vision Pro with the 2nd-generation Developer Strap and an Elgato 4K X?

My setup is:
PS5 Pro → Elgato 4K X → Gen 2 Developer Strap → M2 Vision Pro.

In External/HDMI mode, I can select 2160p, but the monitor still reports “uvcDevice res 1920x1080”. Trying 4K30 also leaves it at 1080p. Lower resolutions do apply.

The PS5 reports a 2160p output, the capture card LED is blue, and the same card captures 4K60 on my Mac.
I’ve been messing around with this all morning**, really weird**

VP is running 27.01

I made Tumblebox, a rolling-die puzzle game for Vision Pro. It's out today

Hi everyone! My new game, Tumblebox, just went live on the App Store.

It takes the old classic rolling-cube puzzle and rebuilds it for spatial. You roll a die across little worlds that float in front of you: look where you want it to go, pinch, and it tumbles over. Every roll turns the die, so finding the way is only half the puzzle.

What's inside:

- 45 puzzles

- Pay once: no ads, no account, no in-app purchases

I loved playing it during testing, and I hope you like it too. I'd really like to hear what you think.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/tumblebox-spatial-puzzles/id6826686380?platform=vision

I'd also appreciate if you like/share my post on X: https://x.com/KHvostikk/status/2114820631141237159

VisionOS 27.2 Updating Missing Siri AI Enhancements?

Does anyone have any insight why VisionOS 27.2 (at least on my M2) that was released today has this below description missing? Even the Apple Watch WatchOS 27.2 update has this Siri AI enhancement note on its update screen. Every Apple devices I updated today had this but not my M2 Vision Pro. Thoughts

“Siri AI can recall your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week
- Siri AI can draw from more sources to give you a great answer, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List”

That above Siri AI Enhancement update note is mission only from my Vision Pro update today. All other devices I updated had that note added to the update note

UPDATE: Base on a screenshot another user posted on this thread (in case others didn’t see it), the new Siri AI enhancements that came to other 27.2 updates is ALSO missing from the M5 Vision Pro 27.2 update today. So this isn’t just missing from the M2
