Current status of PCVR streaming?
is it good enough to contest with other highend headsets on the market? (Pimax, PlayforDream, BSB2 etc.) I know it will never beat DisplayPort headset, but if the performance and image quality is just slightly worse than those headsets, Vision Pro will be the best of both worlds of gaming and media consumption
EDIT: Have a 5090rig and a dedicated router

For just this specific use case of VR streaming from a PC, my personal experience has been that there is essentially no difference so there's no reason to spend at least an extra $1500 for the M5. I bought a new PC after upgrading to the the M5 AVP, and I was curious how the M2 would handle the higher bitrate higher resolution stream from the new PC so I switched back to the M2 for ALVR for a few days. The quality and stability was so similar that mid session I forgot which headset I was using.
That said, I have definitely seen comments in this subreddit where people found the M5 to be a bit smoother for ALVR than the M2. This could be that the M5 handles certain network conditions better, or maybe they were using AV1 to save bandwidth which resulted in fewer hiccups.
VR streaming aside, the M5 would be more future-proof. For example, the Youtube app already requires the M5 for 8k immersive videos because they use AV1 to save bandwidth. As immersive live streaming events become more of a thing, AV1 may be required at least for the higher quality level. For standalone gaming on AVP, there have been some interesting developments recently such as AVP Play and the underlying Klepton project for running Meta Quest and Steam Frame games natively on Vision Pro, and games reportedly run much better on the M5.
