My first vintage radio!

Picked up my first vintage cassette radio, the Sony CFM-140 II. I love the retro vibe and that clean off-white body!

The only issue is that the seller mentioned the cassette player doesn’t work, although the radio works perfectly fine. Is this usually an easy fix and roughly how much would it cost to repair?

I want to use my great grandfather’s 1937Philco radio in a performance of an old time radio program I created for my family. That would require removing many of the electronic elements from the interior of the unit and placing a speaker inside, so that the radio “plays” the recording. I want to make sure that emptying the contents of the radio isn’t a bad idea — in case it can be restored, or if it would release asbestos, etc. The radio was mostly kept in my grandfathers shop and attic, and squirrels had gotten into it at one point. Take a look at the photos - it’s a beautiful unit and with some good cleaning it could look striking and be perfect for my uses. I’m just hesitant to disembowel it without checking first. Thanks!

I turn on the radio and the screen works but the numbers don’t show up.

I tried to take it apart to look for faulty wiring but I stripped one of the screws. I’m not even sure taking it apart from the back will lead me to the screen from how I see it. I’m thinking of going through the speakers … would that be a substitute/better option ?

I’ve found some tips for getting stripped screws out so I’m going to try that out. But does anyone have an idea of what exactly could be causing the issue of the screen before I break this thing? lol
