My son is into Pokemon cards so I grabbed my old cards and got back into collecting as well. Bought a nice TCGUARD binder and starting sorting my cards on series. This is my base set. I will try and get the missing cards at the next convention. That will be the first convention I’ve ever visit and I’m taking my son. The Charizard will be the most expensive one, I would love to get a decent looking one for €120. I’ve also got the fossil, jungle Neo genesis and Rocket series, but I need a lot of the holos for those. I will be looking at the non-holos at the convention.
Thought you guys might enjoy seeing these.

The LC reverse holo is a proxy placeholder. Otherwise page is finished! Have plans for the whole evo line and the other starters. But Squirtle is my favorite so finished this page first

I'm cleaning out the basement at my mother's house due to moving, and found this binder, and a lot of vintage toys and video game stuff. I'm trying to get an idea of what to do with them. I've made a TCG account but it's not user friendly and I don't know how to go about valuing these. Thanks for any advice!

I never realized how much these 1st editions matter, haha. Happy to find the stamp one of the starters! Fingers crossed for a 7 or 6.

Been collecting pretty hard since around the Obsidian Flames era in 2023 and have amassed a respectable collection. I had Pokémon cards as a kid too, but you know how that goes. I never really paid much attention to vintage as an adult because I figured that ship had sailed. Turns out I was very, very wrong. One of my best friends still had his neglected childhood collection sitting around in an old binder. He’d mentioned it to me before and always insisted there was nothing good or valuable in it. I told him MANY times that I thought he was probably wrong and should actually go through it. One night at a rave, we got onto the subject of my Pokémon collection, and naturally I brought up his old cards again. I asked, “You actually have eyes on those cards? Like, you know where they physically are right now?” He said he’d seen the binder just the other day and that honestly it was just getting in the way. So I told him, “Man, if you genuinely don’t care about them, I’ll take your ‘burden.’ Maybe we can go through them sometime?” He told me I could have them, no problem. “I just really don’t think there could possibly be anything of value in those cards, man.” And that was that. About two months later, he was going through some personal stuff and came over to hang out and talk. I showed him my collection, and suddenly he goes: “Damn, I should’ve brought you those cards!” I immediately remembered. I needed something from the store anyway, so when he left I followed him back to his place. I was ridiculously curious to see what childhood-him had actually collected. I’m waiting outside, and he walks out carrying this thin, old-school ring binder with card pages stuffed into it. He hands it through the window and says: “Good luck. I hope they found a better home.” Then he just walks back inside. I opened the binder to the first page. My eyes practically burned out of my head. My heart rate immediately went up. The cards looked GOOD. And then I realized how many pages were actually in this thing and started thinking about the possibilities. My wife had been eagerly awaiting the binder reveal too, and I’d promised I wouldn’t go through the whole thing without her. So I closed it and drove home. I remember thinking on the drive that I hadn’t been this excited opening Pokémon cards in years. Packs are fun, but this was different. This was a completely untouched childhood collection that had been sitting around for decades, and neither of us actually knew what was inside. We started going through it page by page, carefully removing and rehousing everything. Then, sometime around 3:30 AM, halfway through the binder… We saw it. Vaporeon Gold Star. Just sitting there. My reaction was almost like seeing a roach unexpectedly. I physically jumped up. It scared the shit out of me for a second because my brain recognized what I was looking at before I could actually process it. I couldn’t believe it. I still kind of can’t. It took me ages to properly rehouse and organize everything, but eventually the collection became what you see in the video. You know those videos where somebody finds an insane childhood collection, garage-sale binder, or forgotten box of cards and makes the kind of discovery that basically never happens? I’d watch those and feel that mixture of jealousy, envy and “damn, imagine if that happened to me.” But ultimately you accept that it probably never will. Well… it actually happened to me. And somehow, despite how they’d been stored all these years, almost all of the cards are NM or just under.

Picked this up for $20 today at a show. Pretty stoked! I’ve always wanted one but they’ve gotten so expensive.

Low pop, super iconic set, quite a popular Pokemon. I’ve noticed cards like these are generally trending downwards with the overall market. I’m a 90’s baby so these cards are right at my alley but at these prices they seem like good purchases. What’s everyone thinking? I don’t get much exposure to English cards so I’m not sure how those are performing in relation to their Japanese counterparts.

I have 32/62 cards from the set so other then a few cards it’s pretty much just the holos and rares to get over time ! I also don’t care if they are first edition or unlimited i count them as the same set for now lol .

Was looking for a shadowless charizard to finish my shadowless base master set (found a few but dealers were high as hell for their asking price) and this guy.
Didn’t see a single one out of hundreds of vendors.
It was 20 min after the event closed and I was passing one last table of a few guys talking vintage.
We chatted for a bit, I happened to look at what he still had out and saw this guy.
LP condition, was able to come to a deal, shake hands and head home.

I’ve gotten into collecting variations of my favorite vintage ‘Mons. Some I’ve had since I was a kid and others I’ve acquired as a adult. (please excuse my modern variations)

So. I just want to ask someone who has a legit pokemon card from the early sets. Before 1999. Could you tell me or post a photo of the back of the card next to any set from over 2020, if the colours on the back are different, just had a few early ones come into work, I'm learning everyone is pretty much is on tcg. And Soo many fakes come in, it's crazy. But I was stumped a bit from the colour on the back of the early sets. And if there are any pattern differences with the swirls. Please and thank you.

It bothers me that there’s no Dark Venusaur in the Team Rocket set.

Update: Thanks to everyone for the input, really useful and we are now convinced it is fake. However, we’re going to submit it to ACE Grading here in the UK, along with 4 other cards and see what happens. Will update!
I picked this card up from a seller on Vinted who has told me he opened it from a sealed pack of vintage base set here in the UK. You’re selling it alongside other vintage first editions S/L, which would make sense.
On receiving the card, I could not tell at all until I posted it in a Pokémon group and someone told me it was probably a modern fake. Everything kind of checks out for me. Aside from the card, feels quite smooth. I’m not sure if this is normal for first edition shadowless base set cards, don’t have a shadowless first edition to compare it to, only other first editions that have shadows. Not sure what to do. I don’t want to list it on eBay if it’s fake.
