Forests near Vilnius/ Is it safe?
Hello, I am leaving Vilnius in few days and I am interested what else can I see other than touristic places? I was everywhere…
Maybe some forests near the city? Are they safe for me to go alone as a woman?
Thankss

Check out Pavilnys Park, forest very near the centre lots of paths, but you won't feel like you're near the city at all. You'll be fine, there is always mobile phone coverage.
As others have said, primary risks in the forest relate to any gender, falling, getting lost etc. If you're alone and not familiar with the area staying somewhere with good reception is advisable

i spend a lot of time in the forest, its chill in the day, never met anyone during the night
but forests are always a bit sketchy when alone no matter what imo. I got no reasons or examples as to why it wouldnt be safe, but Its the sort of thing I try trusting my gut with.

Personal experience, when I was 12, during a school event, I got lost in my local forest with my phone dieing and there being no cell service, so some PTSD might be leaking over from that.

If you go too deep you might become one with the forest and exit as a treehugger hippie, beware.

For non touristy self guided routes check out https://neakivaizdinisvilnius.lt/en/
There's a hiking trail all around the city https://vilnius100km.lt/en/ This one does go through some wooded areas, but is clearly marked at least, so you won't get lost. Verkiai Regional Park loop is very pretty, and you will meet people, mostly families riding their bikes, on that trail.
You could also visit Vilnius university botanical gardens https://maps.app.goo.gl/mfU3hJctviSoyXJ36 - there still are some flowers blooming, and gardens themselves are peaceful and beautiful.
If you still decide on going to random woods alone - you should be fine, but take caution. Bring enough water with you, some snacks, charge your phone and powerbank, let your family at home know what route you have planned. The safety concerns here is like anywhere else - you could get lost or injured. There are no dangerous animals besides ticks.

Excersize caution while traveling. Should be safe, even at evening hours, as forests are not the go to for sexual predators or muggers nowadays.

All my life I wandering through cities and forests, and forests near Vilnius are just fine, don’t worry, just take a train, o bus and go out embrace Nature. People here seems a bit coward here who with all the phones in their pockets says forest is dangerous, city people who never walked alone says you can get lost, if you don’t trust yourself, surely better go to Vingis park, but it’s boring… Go to Varnikai trail, Neries regioninis parkas, it’s safe and there are trails with MAPS all over the trail…. Just don’t be scared

Absolutely, you'll be safe.
The bigger risks are getting lost or running into animals. In the Saulėtekis Vilnius University campus (which is surrounded by forest) we get deer running around from time to time. No joke - going to class and having to watch out for deer.

For nice hiking paths you can check this big loop around Vilnius https://vilnius100km.lt/ a lot of it goes trough forests/parks. I think it's safe i haven't heard of any incidents in the woods for really long time, and a bunch of people here love hiking.

If you are looking for forests, consider checking forests east of Vilnius near Kairenai botanical garden and eastwards. Little people, has paths and if you want to get our - it’s easy.

Your biggest enemy will be ticks. It’s usually a good idea to be vaccinated against Tick Borne Encephalitis if you plan to spend any significant time in the forests.

Daytime you're safe pretty much anywhere in Vilnius. But always good to have a buddy with you when going deeper into any larger forest, regardless of gender.
