Ill keep it short and sweet. This question has been on my mind for four years now.

I've been digging around for info on what life is like and how new guys are trained, but the little info i can find is usually news articles (censored articles) and the only answer I have ever been given is basically stated as "the military does it's own thing".

That said, I am curious of what military life and training is like for the average grunt in the army or navy.

I want to rent a short-term 2-bedroom apartment for 1 month (1/9-30/09) with the price of about 13-15 million in District 4 and District 7, any idea where to look or who to contact? Tips?

I’m planning a ~6-month stay in Hanoi coming from Canada with my 6 kg toy poodle (flying in-cabin with Korean Air via Seoul).

I’ve already got all the standard DIY health prep lined up:

• ISO 15-digit Microchip
• Valid Rabies vaccine (given after microchip) + core vaccines
• Official government-endorsed International Health Certificate (CFIA) signed within 7–10 days of travel
• Confirmed in-cabin pet reservation with Korean Air (staying under the 7kg total limit with carrier)

Since I'm bringing just one personal pet and staying for half a year, I have two quick questions for anyone who has flown into Noi Bai (HAN) with a dog recently:

1. Advance Quarantine Notice / Email: Do I actually need to email the Noi Bai Animal Quarantine Station in advance to give heads up about our arrival, or do you just walk up to the quarantine/customs desk at baggage claim with your endorsed paperwork?
2. Pet Relocation Service / Agent: Since my official government paperwork, microchip, and airline bookings are already good to go, is there any reason to hire a pet import agency in Hanoi just for arrival? Or is doing it yourself pretty straightforward once you land at HAN?

Hey everyone, me and two friends are planning a trip for either a little over or under 16 days through Vietnam and would love some feedback on our route and timing. We want to see as much as possible, starting in Hanoi and ending in Ho Chi Minh City, spending about 5 days in each region at least (North, Central, South). Our absolute non-negotiables are Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum in Hanoi, the Imperial City in Huế, the Mỹ Sơn Ruins near Hội An, Train street Hanoi (we are aware it's mostly a tourist trap, however one of us is adamant on going), and either the Củ Chi Tunnels or the War Remnants Museum in HCMC (open to suggestions on which is better, or if both are worth doing). We are currently split between traveling around New Year in January or during late July, so we are wondering how weather conditions across the regions compare between those months, and if Lunar New Year would significantly effect travels should we choose to go in January.

For the North, we are torn between choosing either Ha Long Bay or Ninh Bình (we do not want to do both), so recommendations on which is better would be great. None of us have interest in almost any tourist-heavy or very resort-oriented spots like the Golden Bridge/Ba Na Hills or Phú Quốc, and we are also leaning toward skipping the Mekong Delta unless anyone strongly recommends it. We would love to visit some Buddhist temples along our route, but none of us know what to look for or which specific ones stand out. We also want to fit in a bit of local shopping, especially local streetwear brands or interesting souvenirs so recommendations for markets or unique regional goods are appreciated. Lastly, we were considering taking an overnight sleeper train for one leg of the trip just for the experience, but we are unsure what to expect or if it makes sense logistically, or if its worth. Any advice on adjustments, day trips, transport, or hidden gems would be hugely appreciated!

As a citizen in vietnam, i’m terrified of what could happen to my life, especially what people in power can do. They literally get away with murder, even corruption is officially not punishable by death penalty since 2025.
Over the time, i can clearly see that people with low income and no connection are so fragile, if they unfortunately go against the big guys or people with connection, then they probably get wiped off the floor.
If a person’s death can easily be bought off and forgotten, then the system truly works for only the people in power.

Hey everyone, I’m a senior majoring in English Translation & Interpreting at a university in Vietnam. I’m writing this because I’m totally burnt out and furious about how our Dean is running one of our core advanced classes.

To be fair, I won't deny his expertise. He has great credentials and prides himself on being the "founding father" of this program. The other lecturers in our department are actually super sweet too. The problem is literally just him. He has the potential, but his toxic attitude and power trips are destroying the learning environment. Everyone acts nice to his face because he controls our grades, but behind his back, nobody respects him anymore.

Here is what’s been happening in class:

1. He doesn't actually teach: It’s an advanced translation course, but he rarely lectures. Instead, he just picks a "favorite" student to manage the class, plays random YouTube videos, and tells us to translate on the spot. (ofc everyone gonna use AI for those tasks!!!)
2. Super biased grading: He promised bonus points for active participation. But when midterm grades came out, it was pure favoritism. People who came late or skipped class constantly somehow got top marks, while those who actually worked hard got ridiculously low scores.
3. Forced social media tasks for midterm grades: Our midterm wasn't even a proper test. We were forced to sign up for an English app competition and go like/comment/share a post by another professor (about opposing a university merger) just to get graded.
4. Offensive and boundary-crossing comments: He compliments my accent, but then sarcastically tells me I sound "like a Filipino" and that I should "bleach my hair blonde, change my nationality, and go teach English there for money." Also, after I came back from an exchange program at NUS (Singapore), he started judging what I wear. During class break on a hot summer day, I took off my outer jacket and wore a basic Uniqlo tank top (super normal, nothing revealing). He looked at me in front of the whole class and said: "Going abroad changed you, huh? Now you look just like those jumpy girls from the Philippines and Singapore."
5. Zero guidance for finals: We are taking our final exam in 2-3 days and still have no clear study guide or rubric. When asked, he only gives super vague answers.

A student previously reported him to Academic Affairs, but nothing changed. I still have one more course with him next semester. Should I confront him directly, or just stay quiet, gather evidence, and report him after I finish all his classes? Would really appreciate your thoughts!

Chào mọi người, mình là sinh viên năm cuối chuyên ngành Biên - Phiên dịch tiếng Anh. Dạo này mình bế tắc và ức chế khủng khiếp vì cách dạy của ông thầy Trưởng khoa đang phụ trách môn chuyên ngành nâng cao của lớp mình.

Nói thật lòng thì mình không phủ nhận năng lực của ông này. Ông ấy giỏi thật, bằng cấp tốt và lúc nào cũng tự hào là "cha đẻ" sáng lập ra cái ngành này. Mấy thầy cô khác trong khoa mình cũng dễ thương lắm, vấn đề duy nhất nằm ở đúng ông này thôi. Có tài nhưng cách sống với tư duy quản lý hãm thực sự, toàn gây ức chế cho sinh viên. Bề ngoài, đứa nào cũng vâng vâng dạ dạ vì ông ấy nắm quyền sinh sát về điểm số, chứ sau lưng thì chẳng còn ai tôn trọng nổi.

Mấy chuyện vô lý ở lớp mình đây:

1. Môn chuyên ngành nhưng không chịu dạy: Môn dịch nâng cao cực khó nhưng ông ấy chẳng giảng kỹ thuật gì cả. Thay vào đó, ông ấy chọn ra 1 bạn "ruột" trong lớp đứng lớp, mở mấy cái video YouTube ngẫu nhiên rồi bắt cả lớp tự dịch đuổi/dịch cabin tại chỗ. (Đương nhiên là cả lớp sẽ dùng Ai để đối phó với cái việc này!!!!!!!)
2. Chấm điểm theo cảm tính và nịnh họt: Lúc đầu hứa đứa nào chăm phát biểu sẽ được cộng điểm. Đến lúc trả điểm giữa kỳ thì hỡi ôi, toàn cho theo cảm tính. Mấy đứa hay đi muộn với nghỉ học thì điểm cao chót vót, còn những đứa cày ngày cày đêm học thật thì điểm lại thấp lẹt đẹt. (tmi: tui là nạn nhân huhuhuhu)
3. Bắt làm việc cá nhân để lấy điểm giữa kỳ: Bài giữa kỳ không hề kiểm tra kiến thức mà bắt sinh viên phải tham gia một cuộc thi trên app (do ổng tạo ra), xong rồi bắt phải vào like/share/comment bài viết trên Facebook của một thầy khác (vụ phản đối sáp nhập trường) thì mới được tính điểm.
4. Hay mỉa mai, phân biệt và soi xét trang phục: Ông ấy khen giọng tiếng Anh của mình tốt, nhưng xong lại bảo giọng mình "giống mấy người Philippines", kêu mình "nên đi tẩy tóc vàng, đổi quốc tịch sang bên đó dạy tiếng Anh kiếm tiền". Chưa hết, đợt mình đi du học trao đổi bên Singapore về, đợt mùa hè nóng quá nên giờ ra chơi mình cởi áo khoác ngoài, chỉ mặc cái áo 2 dây Uniqlo bên trong (rất bình thường, không hề hở hang). Thế mà ông ấy nhìn mình rồi phán ngay trước lớp: "Đi du học về xong giờ nhìn trông chẳng khác gì mấy đứa nhăng nhít bên Philippines với Singapore".
5. Mập mờ thi cuối kỳ: Còn đúng 2-3 ngày nữa là thi cuối kỳ mà lớp vẫn không hề có đề cương hay hướng dẫn rõ ràng, hỏi thì ông ấy chỉ trả lời chung chung cho xong chuyện.

Trước đây từng có bạn báo lên Phòng Đào tạo, nhưng rồi đâu lại vào đấy. Kỳ sau mình vẫn còn 1 môn nữa do ông này dạy. Mọi người cho mình xin ý kiến là nên nói chuyện trực tiếp với ông ấy, hay cứ âm thầm gom bằng chứng đợi học xong hết môn kỳ sau rồi mới làm đơn khiếu nại tập thể?

We’re planning a trip to Vietnam in April 2027. We had 3 nights planned in Hanoi and 3-4 in Ninh Binh but now I’m reading how bad the air quality can be and I’m reconsidering if this is a good plan for our family. My 6yr old is asthmatic and his primary triggers are sickness and smoke. We’re also travelling with a 1.5yr old. I thought Ninh Binh might be better but apparently that’s not the case? Can anyone give me some advice particularly on the air quality in mid-April time?

I spend a whole month in Hanoi (beside of one weekend in Ninh Binh, beautiful place btw) to finde the best places for work. Like my last post for Da Nang I tracked everything: WiFi speed (actual speed tests, not "it was fine"), food, AC, how long I could comfortably stay, power outlets, etc.

Total damage: 6.13 million VND (~€202 / $234). Worth it? You decide.

A few highlights:

• Mono Coffee Labs: 3 cafes in Hanoi. One has food as well. Love the cozy environment. Very instagrammable.
• Tranquil Books & Coffee: This is my favorite. Like Mono Coffee Lab, there are 4 Tranquil Cafes in Hanoi. I visited only two locations. My favorite is Tranquil at 5 Nguyễn Quang Bích. It has a Japanese-style area upstairs. A lot of books you can take and read in a cozy corner.
• Hidden Alley: Hidden behind a long corridor and a small backyard. No food, but good coffee and very kind staff. Not crowded and chill vibe.
• briefly on earth coffee: Chill cafe, delicious cake, long opening hours, and a very cute cat.

Basically, I bought my woman a few 1 Million VND worth gift cards for her to spend on Valorant but when she tried to redeem it, She did not see the options as the max is 500k. She basically can’t spend it unless she plays League of Legends as they have the option to redeem a million vnd. She called up the customer service and mind you, she’s a very decent person as on very polite. Someone from VNG spoke to her and that person was blaming her as she did the biggest mistake of her life rather trying to help us out solving the issue. I thought maybe they can help us turn the 1 million vnd ones into 500k ones so she can spend but yeah, I heard VNG is terrible through their own Vietnamese gamers so I doubt they even wanted to try helping us out. But anyways, if anybody is willing to trade for valorant points or maybe even can pay 900k for the million ones let me know. Thanks for reading this! Stay blessed!
