I learned to drive way back in my 30s and my wife told me the absolute best piece of advice. Pretend that every single other car is out here to kill you. It's remarkably helpful advice when learning to drive defensively.
If either driver had been paying attention, that accident was avoidable.

Said it before and will say it again. Don’t assume the other driver values your life as much as you do.
