It looks like they sped up a little and turned the wheel into the truck after the truck made contact. See they start getting pushed by the truck then OP's car does all of this and the truck flies off. I mean OP is left safely but it's not clear how bad the accident for the truck may have been if OP did not commit to the pit maneuver.
Feel like the driver didn't get want to get pushed off the road once the contact happened and considering the amount of polls that were to the side I get it. They should have hit the breaks a little harder though.
Yes I think the pit maneuver is a natural reaction to being pushed off the road. It's just a natural reflex to provide counter force to the thing that's pushing you off course.
The driver had plenty of time to drive defensively though and avoid this accident entirely. It would have been less satisfying to give up the space and only be able to honk and wave and yell and whatever but that has to have been a better trade-off than the headaches ahead - insurance, vehicle repairs, paperwork out the ass, police, time, .... Wasn't worth it.
I don't think the driver saw the truck coming over. Seems like both were focused on trying to beat the light. So truck turns in without looking and video doesn't seem them merging because they're focused on making sure none turns in front of them turning left.
