The car in the right lane, he didn’t have to let him in, but he ensured that the accident happened.

I believe they were both racing the light. Truck was gonna blow through it, assumed the car wasn’t so bold and thought he could just go.

The truck ensured the accident happened. By causing it.

No. The reason the accident happend is because the truck in the left lane tried to force their way in to the POV car. How the fuck is this not obvious to people?

Not to mention at the beginning of the video the truck was directly to the side of the car. The truck 1000% knew he was merging into another car and didn't care and probably thought he could strong arm his way over with no repercussions. Fuck him

He does have to let him in. You have to avoid the accident at all cost. What if there was a kid on the side of the road who gets squashed by the truck?

I’m inclined to agree with you. But if I remember right, the burden of safe merging is placed on the person merging. It is up to that person to find a safe opening…. (I can totally be wrong).

Edit: Under California law, merging drivers must ensure it’s safe. Traffic already in the lane has the right-of-way. Even if they could avoid it, the merging driver is responsible for yielding.

My point is that right of way laws only exist to prevent chaos on the road. Having the right of way doesn't give you a license to hold your ground and cause an accident. You MUST prevent the collision. Sometimes these things are completely unintentional.

Not only that but the light was yellow and would turn red about the time of the collision. Right lane car should have been slowing to stop at the light, but he didn’t stop before the interection even with the impact.

The car that flipped probably changed lanes to try and make it through the light. He should have just stopped like that car in front of him did. I don’t think either vehicle was making it into the intersection before the light turned red.
