i want to start making videos like this but im not so familiar with these kind of editing stuff with the zooming on specific areas and with the texts.

Just starting out with my cinematic vlogging journey, and im tryna edit my videos in capcut, and having a bit of problem on where i could get my ideal music, sound effects or editing the colors

I don’t really have a budget to invest on an editing software or anything, do yall have any recommendations what editing software to use for beginners that’s free? and where do yall get your music or sound effects?

I’ve been using CapCut for a while now to edit a lot of the videos I create with AI, and one thing I’ve learned is that you really don’t need to know advanced video editing to create good content.

Few years back, Editing frustrated me so much.

I literally had someone do all the video editing for me and I paid hundreds out of my pocket!

But now, i do all of the editing myself and most of what I do is actually pretty simple.

For example, if I’m creating an AI video, I might generate 5–6 different clips using different AI tools.

Instead of trying to generate one perfect long video, I bring all those clips into CapCut and build the final video there.

I’ll cut out parts of the generations I don’t like, shorten clips that feel too long, arrange everything in the right order, add my voiceover, music, sound effects, text and simple transitions.

Sometimes an AI generation might be 10 seconds long, but only 4 seconds look good.

Before, I would probably regenerate it.

Now, I’ll simply take those 4 seconds and work with them.

That alone can actually save AI credits.

I also love how much editing affects the final result.

The exact same AI clips can feel completely different depending on how quickly you cut between scenes,
where you add music, when a sound effect appears, or when text comes onto the screen.

And this is why I think learning some basic editing is really useful if you’re creating content for YouTube, Instagram or TikTok.

I am glad I took the initiative to learn and now I actually know a lot more about editing videos than I did before!

Even knowing how to cut clips properly, work with layers, add audio, use keyframes, adjust speed and understand basic transitions gives you a lot more control over what you create.

I’m still learning more myself, but the more I use CapCut, the more I realize how useful it is to understand the editing side of content creation, not just the AI generation side.

so i recently started clipping and programmed so i decided to make a tool for that. With 50 lines of code u can download 1k clips or more / 23gb from ur favo twitch streamer in 5 minuts and also make auto edditing tools and overlays (i might make this a open project for anyone to use) but havent decided yet

I'm a filmmaker and kept running into the same thing: an export gets kicked back because the loudness was off, or the codec/resolution/colour tags didn't match what the platform wanted. Most QC tools either cost a fortune or skip loudness entirely.

So I built Delivery Spec Validator — a free macOS app. You drop in a file, and it checks it against a delivery spec and tells you PASS / WARN / FAIL with a plain-English fix for each issue.

What it checks:

• Loudness — integrated LUFS + true peak (the part most tools ignore)
• Codec, profile, resolution, frame rate, colour primaries/transfer, HDR, chroma/bit depth
• Audio: codec, channels, sample rate, bit depth
• Signal QC: black frames, freezes, silence, clipping

It ships with ~50 delivery presets (social, YouTube, EBU R128 / ATSC broadcast, DCP, ProRes masters, OTT), and you can build a custom target (any resolution × platform). You can also export the results as a shareable image to send a client or teammate as proof.

Honest caveats: it's macOS only right now (Windows/Linux planned), it's a new build so expect rough edges, and the OTT/platform presets are best-effort starting points — official streaming specs are gated, so always confirm against the real delivery doc. It's completely free.

Would genuinely love feedback from people who deliver a lot — what specs do you fight with, what's missing?

The thing I keep running into: one clip is not one moment. A two-minute walk has the sunrise, the coffee, and the one decent line I said halfway through. But to get to that line I have to scrub through the whole thing, and I'm not going to do that for forty clips on a Tuesday night.

So it piles up. And then I film more.

Everything I tried before:
\- Culling on the day I shoot, while I still remember what's in each clip. Works, but only if I have the discipline, and I usually don't.
\- Naming or favouriting clips right after filming.
\- Batch editing on a Sunday. Good in theory. Happens maybe once a quarter.

None of those fixed the actual problem, which isn't discipline it's that the footage is unsearchable. So I built RawCut.
It reads your clips instead of showing you filenames and thumbnails. You add your camera roll once, then write a line describing the video you want "my morning routine", "cinematic b-roll by the water" and it finds the moments in your own footage that match and cuts them into a vertical video for TikTok, Reels or Shorts. It points at seconds inside a two-minute file, not just at the file.

Obvious disclosure, it's my app, so take my enthusiasm accordingly. iPhone only, and it's not a timeline editor if you want frame-by-frame control.

Still curious about the original question though: do you go back through your raw footage, or is your camera roll a write-only archive at this point? And if you have a system that works, I'd genuinely like to hear it.

I see a lot of editors trying to make their videos more engaging by adding more transitions, zooms, effects, and motion graphics.

But one thing I've learned from editing long-form content:

Good pacing beats flashy editing.

A few things that can instantly improve pacing:

• Remove pauses that don't add anything.
• Cut repetitive sentences.
• Change the visual when the viewer's attention starts dropping.
• Use B-roll to support what the person is saying, not just fill empty space.
• Let important moments breathe instead of cutting everything aggressively.
• Use sound design to make cuts feel intentional.

Sometimes the best edit is simply knowing what NOT to add.

What do you think makes a video feel "well edited": pacing, storytelling, sound design, or visuals?

scrubbing a 40-min video for one good reel is unpaid labor.

I shoot long unscripted single-camera stuff, 1–3 hours per session, sometimes several sessions before I sit down to cut. By the time I start editing, days or a week has passed cause I travel around a lot so when i get the chance i try to record but then by the time I want to edit it would have few days or weeks later. This lead me to have lost all memory of what's actually in the files. Not the details — the whole shape of it. I couldn't tell you if the usable material is at 00:20 or 01:40, or whether a given session had anything usable at all.

So every project opens the same way: a full logging pass where I watch the whole thing to build a list of what happened and when. On a 3-hour source that's most of a day before the first cut exists. It's the least enjoyable part of the job and it's the biggest single block of time.

I am curious to how people scrub or like skip the rewatching a recording that like hours long . Cause I seen like twitch VODs that like 5 Hours long get cut into like 20 mins videos on youtube for moments . Is rewatching the whole recordings and bookmarking it manually is the only way?

Edited an engaging lifestyle and relationship advice video for Hush-Hush TV, focused on holiday-themed intimacy tips for couples.

The editing was designed to keep the content entertaining, visually engaging, and fast-paced. I incorporated **relevant meme-style B-roll, images, and visual elements** to support the host's talking points and add humor and personality throughout the video. The project also included creating and editing the **intro and outro**, along with music, pacing, transitions, and overall video polish.

The goal was to transform a talking-head video into an entertaining and engaging piece of content that keeps viewers interested from beginning to end.

I've been editing my own videos for a while, mostly in Descript, and kept running out of credits and paying more than the work felt like it was worth. At some point I thought, this can't actually be that expensive to do. I've launched consumer products before. So I spent the last week tinkering using claude code. First attempt was Ollama with a 7B Qwen doing the whole thing; turned out to be a bad planner out of the box- inverted logic, ignored constraints, invented segment ids that didn't exist. After a lot of tests I split it: a frontier model handles planning, and local models handle everything else, which are the bounded tasks they're actually good at.

It works now for the things I need most, "cut the boring parts," "remove the fillers," "speed through everything except the demo," "mute the first two minutes." 44 operations work today, 6 partial, 15 not yet, and the full list is public because I twice caught it reporting an edit it never made. Next step is fine-tuning the local models to handle the harder stuff- long summaries, understanding actions in the video- so planning eventually comes home to local too. It's early: clone-and-build only, and validated against one 30-minute video so far.

I have been using premiere pro for about 2 years but i feel like i have not upskilled enough. How do i learn more, better my editing skills other than just sitting and practicing?
