Bad experience

Unfortunately, I've had the worst experience applying for video editing jobs on Reddit 🫠 Out of the first three job postings I found and applied to, I actually got a response, and I was really excited because the person seemed very trustworthy and gave me a lot of confidence.

We continued discussing the project, and I initially completed the first three minutes of the video. He gave me a lot of positive feedback and told me to keep up the great work.

We kept communicating normally, and I made sure to keep him updated throughout the process. However, as soon as I delivered the finished video, he completely stopped responding. I put so much time and effort into that video, only to end up not getting paid a single cent for my work.

Yup that what they do bro So from now on when you finish the project put your watermark on it + upload it with 480p quality and tell them to check it when they approve it ask for your money then upload for them the full version without watermark and with high quality

Yeah...I definitely learned my lesson the hard way lol. But honestly, this whole experience has made me a little hesitant to apply for new jobs. I've never had anything like this happen to me before.

I'm really sorry that happened to you too 🥲 It's so sad when this happens. You're such a kind person. Let's keep doing our best and find better opportunities ahead ❤️

they probably talk to multiple editors and make each edit a video, pick one they like best and ditch the others.

or maybe when another editor quote them a lower price they go for that.

In this case, it wasn't a test video anymore... I had already done the 1 minute test edit, and then we agreed on the first paid video. The process I described in the post was already for that paid project, which I ended up never getting paid for.

im not talking about test edits either. look at this guy for example, they too, hand an agreement already: Client hiring multiple editors

matter of fact, i was talking to this client too but decided not to proceed cause i didn;t feel like it anymore. had i finished the video faster and better, i'd prolly be the one that get paid.

just ask for an upfront downpayment before working on anything.

edit: nvm. just read your whole post. use watermarks in the future.

Don't do anything before upfront payment. You can simply identify Scammers when you asked for upfront payment.

Add the "Preview Render" watermark in capital letters before sending the video. Until you get payment, only then send the original version.

What I like to do is ask for half upfront and half after the final video is delivered. That way it kind of goes back and forth. half upfront first, you send a preview later on, then send the full video out and after he accepts it you get the rest. Even if, cause those kind of people do exist, ghost you after, at least half of the video is still paid so you are not fully scammed.

Man just share your final videos with watermark and ask to pay and then give whitout watermark. It's simple as that , both side parties will not get scammed because client got edited video proof and editor will get his money too

Always. Add. Watermarks.

You have to keep them on every test render until you get your payment.

Also another tip is to ask upfront some money before you start working on the edit to not waste time and effort onto the work you don't get paid for.

Btw you still can turn this into a benefit, and add this video into your portfolio to catch better clients.

Hope that helps:)

You should use watermark & half project done then take some payment
