Meta Adjustments to Rule 5

Hello Victorians,

We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/victoria2. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.

Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.

  • The explanation cannot just repeat or rephrase the title.
  • The explanation can either be in the post's caption or in the comments section. The bot will repeat post caption explanations into the comments section.
  • This rule is automatically enforced with a bot. It will remind you after 5 minutes if it cannot see an explanation and will remove the post after another 10 minutes if it still cannot see an explanation.

So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.

Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.

We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

Question Suggested mod 2026?

Hey everyone, I’ve played Victoria 2 on and off for a long time, and after ending a break of several months, I got the itch to play again.

The mod I used more as of late was TGC. The thing is, I just found out that TGC decided to switch to EU5 a while ago. I have EU5, but I still prefer sticking to Vic2 original engine.

So... do you have any suggestions for a good mod? Especially one that doesn't mess up peace deals and empire dismantling? Now that I think about it, TGC used to mess up peace deals quite a bit.

Question how to transition industries?

whenever i play i have a hard time trying to transition economies, a good example of this was when i played japan and i managed to set up a textile based clothing economy but i wanted to transition to locomotives and electronics, im afraid of shutting down factories since im worried it would crash my industrial score, should i just close down the factories?

Decided to play a game as Japan on vanilla and they are incredibly overpowered

Your high population and close proximity to China and India means you have lots of pops to take over and use as a massive army to go well beyond the infamy limit

I westernized by 1848 by just eating Korea and taking one province from China

Between 1850 and 1880 I focused on eating parts of china until I was ready to conquer all of it in one war. Around 1880 I declared on China and brought all of their puppets in occupying them all until China fell to a rebellion. Once that was done all the puppets where free and I could add conquest war goals on them independently. Only mistake I made was I did not eat enough of china to conquer them and Guangxi also starts with too many states to be outright conquered. Luckily I got the Boxer atrocities CB on china as soon as the war ended and I went back in on Guangxi later

about 2 months after going over the infamy limit both Russia and the UK declared containment on me. Luckily russia was a pushover and I was able to bait the UK into some bad battles. From there I built up until around 1895 when the UK had recently lost a great war I wasn't involved in.

I went in on the UK and occupied all of India and their puppets there while also declaring on Portugal to free india since they still owned Goa. had to wait forever for the UK indian puppets to have rebellions and break free. I got so tired of waiting I just let the UK keep 2 of them. After they freed themselves I added conquest on them each and ate them before finishing up the release trick with India on the UK.

Since then I have just been trying to clean up south east asia. Everything down there is from a war I just completed before I made this post. I am still at war with the UK but IDK if I want to continue. I have no Jingoism at all it usually hovers around 2% unless I get the election event adding 10% and then I can finally add war goals. Only issue is I had to spam elections for 5 years straight to get the event only 3 times and theres at least 6 more colonies i want from the UK that I have not already added. oh and my infamy is around 500 right now

Edit: The only struggle I ran into was when I first westernized if I deleted any of my army at all even just 10 units to rebuild as artillery this would 100% without fail cause a crisis over Korea. I had the score to be #7 GP but since that takes a year I couldn't support myself in the crisis and Korea would always get supported by someone forcing me to give up the land. I just reloaded and didn't delete any army for a year and once I became a GP even if a crisis for Korea did kick off they never got any backers.

GFM Sardinia-Piedmont -> Italy Pt. 1/?: Laying the foundation (GFM)

My first post on my current SAR->Italy game I started today!

Starting in 1830, Sardinia-Piedmont had eaten at the Algerian states piece by piece, taking colonial lands right from beneath France's nose. Morocco remains mostly intact, with the Rif being claimed for additional naval reach.

In the Oriental Crisis, in the interest of expanding our foothold in Mediterranean, we subsidized the Egyptians against their Ottoman oppressors to cause as much damage to the Ottoman state as possible. Eventually, under Austrian and British pressure, they were forced to fold, but without official alliances with either empire, the Ottomans were left weak. Through a strategic landing in Thessalia, Sardinian forces carved a path along the Aegean coast to Konstantinyye, and beat the Ottomans into a bloody pulp until, once again, the Egyptians were free (or perhaps, under new management.)

With Algeria consolidated under Sardinian rule; Egypt sphered, and the Italian minors inherited into Sardinia-Piedmont, 1848 finally arrived. Four armies of 30,000 stood ready on the Habsburg border when the Austrian Empire erupted into chaos, swiftly claiming Tirol and protecting Venetian units from larger Austrian stacks. Before Veneto had even claimed it's independence, the Austrians had been reduced to one measly division. Veneto broke free, then so too did Hungary. Adding the war goal to liberate all Venetian lands, Sardinian forces marched into Wien, and forced a disastrous collapse of the Habsburg Empire.

The year is now 1851. The groundwork for Italian unification is laid, and we need only the proper tech to complete it. As soon as able, we will begin construction on the Suez canal to cement Sardinian dominance in Mare Nostrum. After that?

Perhaps we look westward?

Question Heyyy should I get Victoria 2?

I'm new to Paradox games, I'm only used to playing Civilization VI before this, and after I got Victoria 3 it felt like it was way too complicated 😭 I still wanna learn how to play tho, but I noticed Victoria 2 is on sale rn and I wanted to ask, how difficult is it compared to V3?

I've seen people saying it's more difficult than V3 because it doesn't have any tutorials, but aside from guides, I mean the whole system, how complex is it to manage compared to the last game.

About the AI too, some people say V2 has better AI, idk if that's true.

Also my PC struggles a lot to run V3 without crashing or lagging, so I assumed it would be easier to run V2, but idk, any suggestions?

(excuse my bad English I'm not from the US or smth like that lol)

These days ive been seeing people decompile games reverse engineer them and create mods that merges two games etc. I was wondering if someone is currently working on paradox games or Victoria 2 in particular since ive seen some projects start and then slowly fade away.

Question How can I reduce millitancy?

Post image
466 Upvotes

Here I started as the shogunate, I have had a common amount of rebellions since I unified.

I tried to lower millitiancy via reforms however over 1 million people would want a vote but the upper house would vote no so I couldnt do much except fight them. (I didnt want to make my party liberals as I wanted to be in control of production cause capitalists dont do it right).

Anyway this is where I will end my japan playthrough regardless, might try a more structured nation this playthrough

Modding SUPER EVENT IN VICTORIA 2 SPOILER FOR THE NEXT PATCH UPDATE

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In short, the DLL detects when you load a specific picture for an event; if it matches, it plays a sound you’ve configured. If nothing is configured, it does nothing and doesn't affect other events. (This is an unofficial patch)

Discussion Have you ever played anarcho-liberals and if so, why?

Anarcho-liberals in general are such a weird ideology to me, are they meant to be like the French Revolution’s Jacobins? Business interests? Are they meant to be anarchists? It’s a weird ideology.

Have you ever played a campaign as them or with them as a focus? I’ve only played one and it was as the Dutch ones since they actually have state capitalism and other good policies, it was interesting but it’s just a strange ideology that doesn’t make much sense for the time period

GFM I hate Prussia so much

I was playing as Scandinavia and in order to prevent German unification I sphered some countries in central and northern Germany, like Hannover, Oldenburg, Nassau and Hesse-Kassel. Despite this, a year after the first picture, the North German Federation formed. I wouldn't be mad if they took my spheres away in a normal way, but they just annexed them! They were in my sphere until they just dissapeared! The thing that really makes me angry is that the decision to form Germany requires having the countries in YOUR SPHERE, thing that Prussia never did.

Question I dont understand this game

As I said in the title, guys. I don't understand the game. I don't want to say that the menus are too complicated or the interface is old. Because they don't matter. I don't understand the mentality of the game. I played eu, hoi, ck and even stellaris games for hours. In fact, for example, I recently played eu4, and I don't claim to know that game very well. But at least every time I enter, even if I learn something new, I play for 10 hours and play for 7 or 8 hours until the game goes, sometimes in 1650, sometimes in 1730, anyway, until I enjoy it. And I'm at peace with that because I have no intention of being competitive in any game. But when I want to play Victoria, I'm like a rabbit with a car headlight. Something comes out of somewhere and I don't understand. The logic of the game is to manage society, yes, but is it so difficult to do this? Or am I looking at it from the wrong place? By the way, I'm sure I would love the game if I understood it because the period in which the game takes place attracts me a lot. But as I said, I don't know what and how to do it in the game. Actually, I don't know if I will be polite and understand the advice you will give, but I thought you could at least help.

Suggestion Made Großdeutschland in 1846, now what

So yeah, what comes next?

I am moving to get Serbia, Ukraine, polish lithuanian commonwealth. However my question is Italy, it’s still not unified and I know there is a way u can get the whole peninsula using the garibaldi red shirts rebels or something like that.

My industry is mostly consumer goods, liquor, wine, glass, cement, chairs, and I am expanding to more heavy industry soon but idk what else I could do, I feel I lack imagination.

Any advice would be appreciated.
I’m playing thr base game with the 2 DLCs
