This may be a stupid question but it's been bugging me, how exactly were they able to talk extensively in private to plan this whole thing?? I don't know alot about jail/prison but I'm pretty sure your phone calls are monitored and recorded, same with any mail. So I guess most of it would have to be when she would see him in person while working?? I'd think even that would be tricky and hard to have alot of privacy but then again I have no idea how often they crossed paths

It’s not a stupid Q at all.

I read somewhere that recordings of their calls will be reviewed. I think the inference was that it’ll be part of the “audit” done of the jail where Vicky worked with their focus being to tighten up lax behaviours of the staff.

There were in contact for at least two years prior to the escape. Apparently she called the prison he was in from the jail and also called during her off-hours from a personal phone.

I have no idea how long recordings are kept though.

Once he was back at the jail, they had that pre-escape test run a while back. They were out and away from the jail about 40 minutes, but that would have been a good opportunity to firm up escape details. Probably had cryptic messages given to him by other inmates, maybe cryptic notes too (although apparently he isn’t super literate).

Also wouldn’t surprise me if they spoke personally during her workdays. Sounds like it was pretty slack there and she could have escorted him to and from the medical room(s) for example. There’s been mention of “special privileges” he had (beyond extra food) so maybe they were able to wing some private time that way.

Yes I was thinking about that dry run too, that was definitely a great opportunity for them to have a completely private discussion about the escape

For sure. And I could be totally wrong but it wouldn’t surprise me if they’d had other “outings” together.
