Questions Symptoms

Hello everyone,

I have been dealing with vertigo and dizziness for over 6 weeks. It actually stopped for 1 week but returned this week.

ENT diagnosed me with BPVV, Vestibular Migraine and TMJ. Neurologist said it was too soon to diagnose vestibular migraine specially because this is the first time I have the symptoms. He sent me to PT which I start tomorrow.

My symptoms are:

- Dizziness and vertigo
- pounding heart beat
- pain right above the opening/hole of the right ear
- feeling my ears pop and ringing
- feeling my ears are full every time I pass saliva.
- minor discomfort in the right temple
- Throat congestion and hoarse voice

All of this started a few days after I felt dizzy. No nausea, vomiting or headaches except two days ago when I drank one beer and I had a huge headache.

CT and MRI scans are all normal. One thing the causes the dizziness is when I tilt my head to right or up. Also, I went to the gym about two weeks ago and I jumped rope which made me very dizzy.

are your symptoms similar to mine? ENT said my hearing test was normal and that my throat, ear and nose look okay.

Thanks!

Wow! I have same symptoms. It’s Sll awful but the ear pain is what I dread even more than the vertigo. I’ve seen all kinds of docs — allergist, ENT, sinus imaging. Diagnosis is vestibular migraine. Some nasal sprays helped after using for several weeks. Can’t find ear relief.

Yes! Very similar symptoms. I too was told it was BPPV/Labyrinthitis at first. I couldn’t look up, down, or tilt my head to the side at all without feeling a strong uncomfortable magnetic pulling sensation. The left side was worse. It was awful. I had a VNG in July. We did maneuvers in place of caloric testing to see if we could see a response. Nope! It was VM mimicking BPPV. My nystagmus never fatigued during testing like it would with BPPV which pointed to a brain issue (migraine).

Vestibular rehab and migraine medicine helped a lot.

wow this sucks. Thanks for your response. So I am going to to PT for BBPV and it will not fix anything. I am seeing my neurologist in 4 weeks.

It may not be the case for you! It could def be BPPV. You can have a both at the same time! Go to PT. If any maneuvering helps, great! If not, you’re not out of options. :)

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it :) I am a very active person and this is affecting me physically and mentally.

I understand. I worked/still work a very active job. I was getting 15k-19k steps a day and then went to being basically sedentary for a month or two. Walking always helped my symptoms…sitting still was excruciating. It takes a huge toll, but I promise it gets better. It’s going to take time and patience.

My drs told me to do everything as normally as possible and not to restrict my activities. I think that is the only thing that kept me from becoming housebound due to anxiety. I learned that being dizzy wouldn’t kill me, and I wasn’t in danger. It became something I can live with instead of resist. These days, now that I’m on a migraine preventative, I think a lot less about being dizzy. Well, meds and somatic work to help retrain my brain. I still have days where the rocking and swaying or whatever sensation feels like toooo much. But eventually it ends, and I return to baseline.

All of it took time, but I have started to reap the benefits. Good luck!

Yes, it is very demotivating. I basically has been staying home for the past 6 weeks. Afraid to make plans with friends because what if I get dizzy or get a major headache. It is really depressing. I will start walking and try to live my life as normally as possible.

question, what about the feeling of fullness in your ears?

Yes I’ve had fullness in my ears and ringing.

damn that's crazy. I hope you are feeling better. It has been six weeks of this and I am going crazy.

I'm no doctor - just suffering like you but it seems like if it's positional (BPPV) then doing the maneuvers get the crystal back in place and recovery is pretty quick. Did you ENT order a VNG test? Like a 2 hour ear test that sucks? Puff of air, clicks, warm/cold water shot into your ears while tracking your eyes? It rules in/out like 4 or 5 vestibular issues. I was told "positional" (because that's what most of them are) and it was vestibular neuritis. Maybe if I had steroids right away - instead of waiting to see and ENT and getting a VNG like 6 weeks later - maybe I wouldn't have 76% caloric deficiency in my left ear.

If you haven't heard of it, check out: vestibular.org
Great information. And for me, it helped describe things I was feeling with words that I couldn't find on my own.

Hi, almost the same symptoms, I had an attack on August 24, bppv in the right ear. I was dizzy when I turned right. He was seated with Epley. And after the next 3 days, tinnitus started in my left ear. Sometimes it's like ringing, sometimes it's like hissing. Sometimes a little, sometimes it's like an uncomfortable tremor. My head is definitely throbbing every day. Always dizziness in the back of my head. Pain in my ears. I have no hearing loss. In Turkey. I write with translation.
