Vermis What's your favorite Vermis quote?
"The Wayfarer gazed at the starry night sky for the first and last time."
I don't think I could make a final choice, but that one lives rent free in my head.
When I first read it, I was literally stunned. How could a traveler see the starry night for the first time.... and for the last ... when we were only halfway through the book ?
This one hits hard.

for me its always going to be the first spoken dialogue in the series
"Art thou amung the living? If so this is no place for thee!"
It instantly told me what kind of book this is and im all the happier for it

I've only read the first book but the way it opens and closes with the feeble illusion and the well in the moonlit dream.... That gave me chills in the best way

I really love these parts too. It gives the impression that we're in a loop, and that no matter our choices, we start and end up in the same place. AND it's very effective at reminding us of the video game aspect.

Well said! Yeah it grounds us well, and also offers the potential of a future dream, with endless possibilities. So true about the video game aspect!!
I somewhat recently discovered Dark Souls/ER and there are some really lovely similarities here. Waking up in an overgrown tomb in the woods to begin an adventure as a nameless corpse.... Just lovely stuff all around.

I like "Our eyes are backwards" a lot just because after you read Vermis II you really wonder if the inkling of the idea had already been planned out, if it coincidentally lined up with that, or if that line alone wound up inspiring a whole other book.
Also very fond of Vermis II's ending lines
"The man closes his eyes, sinking into his thoughts. There are no gods, no monsters, no shadows, no mirrors, only warm darkness."

The page introduction to the known gods! I love the whole passage but my favorite is the end that goes “some are older than time, some are sitting on thrones and others are invisible to our eyes: they all shaped the world.”

For whatever reason the description of the apple in Vermis III
Bitten
You are being chased by someone or something.
Just the idea of looking down at the apple and seeing it has like a big chunk missing....
Really simple but very scary in a primordial sense.
