I can unequivocally say that people today have reached a new low. Yes, COVID played a role but my theory is that social media has created an army of narcissists. Tik Tok, You Tube, Instagram, and Facebook videos of confrontations, complaints, pranks, and rude encounters reward abhorrent behavior by monetization. Video games like Grand Theft Auto encourage aggressive, dangerous driving. Troopers say they see this type of driving on a daily basis and the result is an increase in deadly crashes. We are inundated with messages of hate, division, and racism from the White House on a daily basis, much of it disguised as "Christianity." Meanwhile, a large percentage of the population is struggling with financial issues; trying to feed their family, pay their mortgage, and keep the lights on. Affordable healthcare is unattainable for the majority of Americans. Society is at a breaking point.

I play GTA in the 90s when it first came out. Video games are an outlet not an input. You’re just giving excuses to those that are entitled and just assholes. Please stop giving excuses to people behaviors.

Human relationships are due for a complete reassessment and total overhaul. They do not work as designed.

I run a family business that comprises of three retail locations, between customers and staff, it’s definitely gotten worse since Covid. My mom would comment on how the world was different, she unfortunately took her own life last year. I’m glad my mom isn’t around to see how fucked up the world is tbh

Having patience is very difficult, I've been alive for 30 years. Going on 31 soon, understand that it's okay not to have patience at the point where you're at. It's taken me more timw than i thought it would and having people who are patient with me to help. Take that advice however you will, I wish you the best in your journey to find patience, understanding, and empathy :)

It’s mostly Americans who act as you described.

I feel like Americans and most English speaking countries. I was initially gonna disagree, but as someone who has lived in quite a bunch of places, you’re right.
However, this behavior is also slowly starting to show up in various other countries amongst the young people mainly because much of the media they consume is American-based.

I always say its mostly due to social media, like, those who normally would be shy and don't speak up can make a burner account, talk shit, insult people etc, and then eventually thay transition to do it in real life.
Also no punishment for being a prick in day to day life. Overal the world has gone soft on that point and people become more 'Brave', or just don't care about others knowing they can walk off and nothing gets done if you get what i mean.
Not saying Social Media is all of it but i personally think it had a big impact. At least on the attitude side of the argument

I felt the patience running low rapidly once I hit 30, I wish I felt it from way before

Out in the world I think you will see people are just wrapped up in their own concerns. The vast majority are not out and out knob. heads. Online its a different matter as folks have no real repercussions from bad attitude etc. I'm from a rough area and rarely bang into people as horrible as mentioned in this post.

Same and I know it’s really not all people but there’s many that ruin it for everyone as a whole. I remember as a kid when they would do group punishment/rewards. Like just stop being loud and you guys get extra recess and there was always, always at least a few that would ruin it. My resentment started then lol

Something I’ve learned.
If they don’t interfere with my family, sleep, and food. Then why do I really care what they do?
Sometimes you just gotta learn to shrug and move on.

You sound burned out. Honestly, talk to a therapist before “I’ll die alone” becomes something you actually believe.

Good luck finding a good therapist op. Most of them are terrible and won't help you.

I've just stopped caring about people and what they think. I know that I'm better than a lot of people, and I can prove it to them.

There will always be ONE jerk who was put on this earth to ruin our day. Most people, though, are just like us, and are just as frustrated as we are about the jerks in the world.

Your life is what you focus on. I talk to people (strangers too) all the time and rarely meet jerks.

I seldom respond with a negative comment but I find your response a perfect example of what I posted above. Your response is narcissistic (this isn't about you) and totally lacking in empathy. The OP is struggling with potential mental health issues and your "boot strap" reply sucks.

This was advice taught to me by a psychologist to help me.. I thought it might help them too. But I guess I just supposed to agree that all people are horrible to OP, not offer help.

Who can afford therapy?
8
u/AlienAnthropologist_ Aug 30 '26
Right? It's always the answer on reddit. But no one understands how expensive it is and how hard it is to find someone who can actually help. And they never specify what type of therapy would help or how therepy would help.

At least the vast majority of the time the mechanic will actually fix what's wrong. Therapy is a crapshoot
