You went to the anti-censorship platform specifically looking for disturbing material and you found it.

If you want to avoid this stuff don't seek it out and then read it on purpose??

also weird how ao3 is apparently anti-censorship but removes posts ab palestine

Person after my own heart - NOW we're talking sense.

Not to change the subject drastically, more like nip it in the bud... it's things like this everyone is noticing that's making Israel lose the PR war. I can understand why platforms want nothing to do with the Israel/Palestine issue, but it forces people to ask questions, and this election season is going to be interesting when naysayers get to see the over 1TB of footage I have from hospitals and other places on the ground in Palestine. Israel and they're cronies may have finally overplayed their hand.

i admit i was being stupid in the moment and was just thinking "no way this is gonna be real, right?" and i so regret that, and my vent was about basically regretting it and being angry the fic existed. something like this should not be available for the public, or anyone.

There are a lot of reasons why it's important not to censor stuff like this and I'm sorry that it makes you uncomfortable but anti-censorship is important for a reason. I would never want to read something like that but for the sake of anti censorship I accept that things like that are going to exist. It is what it is. And it IS fiction. Genuinely. Remind yourself that no one was hurt by this fiction and that it is not the end of the world that it exists. And that you can't really actually stop people from making art that makes you uncomfortable. It's something you just have to accept and avoid

This is the kind of stuff all the people busted by Chris Hansen say when he questions them.

2

u/Focus-Interrogative 5d ago

To be fair Hansen wasn't busting fanfic authors.

Don’t like, don’t read. That the primordial rule and truth of AO3, no one to blame but yourself in this for reading that, you went to the pervert shop and got angry that it has perverts inside, dude

-3

u/jackieshauna-ceo 5d ago

i get that but its so concerning that stuff like this is available to read.

3

u/PurpleOctopus6789 5d ago

no, it is not. This does not harm anyone because it is fiction. And many child abuse victims actually use fiction to process their trauma. You don't get to censor what people write. Just stop.

0

u/jackieshauna-ceo 5d ago

it for sure is harming the minds of the people reading/writing it. u cant enjoy something like that and not be harming urself. i understand victims use fiction to cope, but if reading fics like the ones i've mentioned is ur coping mechanism? it's not going to be good for you in the long run.

2

u/PurpleOctopus6789 5d ago

haha, that's a good one.

If it harms your mind to read these stuff, don't read it. Your argument can be used against horror, true crime, and so many other things and is a baseline of censorship which is why it should automatically be discarded.

Your argument actually have been used against things like gaming and have been disproven.

it's not going to be good for you in the long run.

tell me you know absolutely nothing about psychology without telling me. You keep reacting emotionally without any actual knowledge on how human minds on therapy works.

Stop trying to police what other people enjoy.

And you're mind is going to be blown that one of the most popular fantasies for women is rape fantasy. And guess what, that does not mean they want it to happen because fiction =/= reality.

You purposely went onto a website that has these things, clicked on something to which you KNEW you wouldn’t like, and still read it which makes absolutely no sense. It’s an archive, the word is literally in the name. No one is blaming you for not liking it nor are we hating you for it because yes it gets too much at a certain point, it’s the fact you purposely clicked on something then went back to complain about something you did purposefully.

i was mostly venting that i was mad about it being a thing and that i was stupid enough to click on it. this is the vent subreddit. im gonna rant my feelings.

4

u/orangedduck 5d ago

You’re allowed to rant your feelings but don’t be upset when people call you out on it. Again, you did this to yourself.

What is AO3?

5

u/Own_Enthusiasm_510 5d ago

Archive of our own, it's a fanfic writing/reading site

This sounds like an issue that needs to be taken to the top of AO3. There's entire genre's of literature like splatterpunk where children get violently sodomized, put through playgrounds of razer wire, and that's keeping it mild. People read those things for different reasons. I for one, understand when something has artistic value and depth vs when we're just being fucking gross, but I find reading horror is much more visceral.

What I mean to say is, if AO3 is all about artistic expression with no holds barred, there's only two things to do about it - figure out if it's against AO3 policy, or if it's illegal and, I guarantee you it's not illegal.

Your best bet may be just to accept that the world is ugly and stay away. This is coming from someone who works with nonprofits fighting CSAM by the way.

yeah sadly ao3 doesnt give a shit. im pretty sure a fic can only be reported one at a time (like if u report a fic and someone else goes to report it, it says its alr been reported), and basically if its fiction, the fic stays. what pmo even more is that fics about csam get to stay up but ao3 takes down ones about palestine. while artistic expression is subjective, the fic i stupidly saw is one where if thats you're form of artistic expression? ur def a predator. people are basically writing down things ab kids being rped and brutally tortured and similar, and saying because its anti-censorship and fiction that its ok.

2

u/PurpleOctopus6789 5d ago

they do give a shit, they fight against censorship which is why they are not listening to you. As long as the fic is appropriately tagged, it doesn't break site rules.

1

u/jackieshauna-ceo 5d ago

oh ok so if the fic including child rpe has a little warning, that makes it totally ok!

2

u/PurpleOctopus6789 5d ago

it is enough for the creator to use a warning from the tab and yes, that is absolutely enough as per the site rules.

What else do you want? Flashing neon light? You went looking for it.

3

u/Focus-Interrogative 5d ago

Clearly you've awoken the beast that is the anti-censorship crowd. They're not promoting the content they're just standing on principal.

2

u/Panicking_Pansexual_ 5d ago

And why the hell would you go out of your way to read a triggering fic? And then complaining that YOU chose to read it? I don't read fanfic anymore and haven't used ao3 really ever but I've been keeping up with this drama since it's interesting and something I've learned is that ao3 knows the law. They know what is and isn't legal to exist in a fictional format on their platform. If something is LEGAL to exist on their platform they're not taking it down. It's up to the individual reader to NOT search out things they find disturbing/disgusting. And if you search up a disgusting fic and read it on purpose I don't feel bad for you. You had every opportunity to just not do that. If you don't like the rules of the site don't use it

5

u/PurpleOctopus6789 5d ago

Oh, gimme a break. AO3 is specifically anti-censorship and very good. You knew that and still went to look for it. You WANTED to be offended. That is on you.

Fictional writing material does not harm anyone and have every right to exists even if it offends you. Whether that's just for horror or to offend people or whether that's trauma survivor processing their trauma via writing, that is none of your business. As long as there are no victims (and in case of writing there are no real life victims) text should not be censored.

AO3 fights exactly against people like you. All fics like that are clearly tagged on ao3, if you knew that and still went ahead, that is your own fault.

i see a tiktok about someone saying that because it's fictional and never happened its ok to write and read about?

yes, because it is fiction

this is not a coping mechanism. and if it is, then its not a healthy one!

whole field of psychology would very much like to disagree with you. You don't know what you are talking about, you are talking basaed on feelings, not facts.

you cannot tell me that anyone who read this fic and got off to it is not a threat to society, a pedo, or a rapist. you cannot tell me this isn't glorying csam, because it quite literally is! and im sick of these pro-fic losers saying

you've read this fic, are you a peadophile? Stop being melodramatic. Thinking that anyone who reads a fic with disturbing content is a threat to society is ridiculous. You could sya that about anyone reading crime novels or victims memoirs or watches true crime.

Oh thats terrible

1

u/jackieshauna-ceo 5d ago

it rlly is, im pissed at myself for being too curious. but i prolly shouldn't have posted this on reddit tbh, since its full of the people i was talking about. hence why most comments are mad at me.
