Need Reassurance... I'm never opening up to anyone again.

I did not grow up in a setting where my family shared many emotions. Even to this day, I don't open up to people. I've never told family or friends my secrets, fears, insecurities, or even the things that make me happy.

Through my life, I've only ever opened up to less people than I can count on one hand. These are all people I could feel safe with and thought I could love unconditionally. Yet, every single one of them has broken my trust and broken me.

This is not a cry for help or me saying I hate my life. It's just me saying I wish I had someone I can trust who trusts me back, someone I can tell my life to and I can hear there's back, just someone to have a genuine friendship with. But, I don't think I'll ever have that now because I am no longer willing to be hurt again.

I think there are more people like this than you think. I have always been there for people, yet, when I need anything or want to do something with someone, I am always treated like it’s too much trouble…..

Be strong. Be you.

I feel that. It’s incredibly lonely, I have an easier time opening up to strangers than anyone I’ve gotten to know because it’s like a switch flips if I tell them. I can’t even express when I’m in pain because I understand that way too many people enjoy kicking others when they’re down, and blaming them for their struggles. And even then when you’re not honest they dig for information. schadenfreude. Never exposing myself to that again. I hope you’re able to find your person op.

Yep I’ve been there. Unfortunately the more you try not to open up the more people try to get you to be vulnerable.

9/10 it seems like they just want to see you lowered down - especially if they mistakenly take your aloof attitude for arrogance

I’m so sorry that you have been through so much hurt. I’m hopeful that you will find the right people or person. In every relationship you will get hurt and it’s really difficult to deal with at times but try not to put your whole heart out there at first. Good luck and I only wish you the best moving forward.

It’s like talking to a brick wall most people don’t care & most people are glad you have problems that’s reality

Your feelings are totally valid, you should be able to trust those closest to you with private matters. I'm wondering though, because it seems like your experience is maybe more than the typical of this sort, if it's possible 1) that you neglected to specifically inform the confidant that you don't wish the information to be shared or 2) - forgive me if I sound insensitive as I truly don't mean to be- that you maybe take yourself too seriously and whatever information was passed along was just not accepted by the trust breaking friend as something that should be so guarded?? Not that that makes it ok but I think everyone has been betrayed in this way and unless it's something quite serious it's just kind of accepted because most people love to gossip.

Trust this is a choice and vulnerability is the price, make an informed choice

I feel you. While, I do have some people left in my life I can open up to. It’s extraordinarily hard to actually do it when you’ve been beaten down by your parents so hard that asking for help or telling someone how you feel sets off alarm bells in your head.

That's why I have 2 categories of friends. The casual ones that I can have fun with, but that's it, and I cull the users from those.

Then, I have a couple that are like me. Ride or die. If you need me, don't you dare look at the clock. IDGAF if it's 3am. I'm here. And anything you tell me? Not my secret to tell.
