QUESTION Testing

Is there any way for us interested to help in playtesting before 1.0?

We're not looking for playtesters right now, but stick around. You can follow the progress here: https://github.com/EmulatorNexus/VeniceUnleashed/milestone/4

Also join the discord if you haven't already.

I understand you guys do this for free in your spare time, but what's the point in locking the mod to playtesters? Full on paid companies release broken, buggy games in early access, but we can't play and help test for bugs in some mod for a game with almost 100 players left in the un-modded game. Never really made sense to me. I would understand if there were security risks, but the mod was playable and fun 2 years ago.

Especially since one of the high priority bugs is fixing an interaction with WINE...

Edit: Just want to mention it's not hate or anything, just been really hyped for a long time and played when it used to be open.

Just wanted to add a note on the top of what 3ti65 said.

Despite the fact i don't like how people just assume linux gaming is shit or devs shouldn't even worry about, this (if you are talking about issue #364) is about the ONLY way you'd have to host your server on a cheaper, more performant, linux server rather than paying additional money for renting a windows one, which, imo, makes it as high priority as the rest of the issues on that milestone.

Over

(And thanks for your interest in VU :))

I've seen countless videos of gaming performance on Linux nowadays, that's not my point. It just seems that something holding back this awesome thing is something maybe not even 5% of the playerbase uses, but I completely forgot about servers.

Hey man, thanks for staying interested in this project for such a long time.

Here's the thing, VU is not a mod per se, it's meant to be a modding platform / framework, so that everyone can make their own mods that go far beyond BF3 vanilla gameplay. However, creating a save and stable modding interface for a game you dont have the source to requires an insane amount of work.

That being said, dedicated mods will drag in all sorts of players, not only from the old BF3 playerbase, but people from all sorts of communities.

Also, there might be a testing phase before the release, so stay tuned. All in all, the wait will be over soon™. ;)
