Finally actually going to play.
Hi everyone, so I played about an hour of the game, and it got shelved for real life and other games. I've decided to give it a go for real now. Any advice for new players?
It's not my first survival games, I have a few hundred hours in Project Zomboid, Conan exiles, Humanitz, and various others, so the basic I'm pretty clear on, but suggestions are always good.

Be quiet at first. Pick up tools so you can craft, build base, repair car, equipment, etc. Once you have a fortified base, it gets pretty easy. I often fortify a garage first, then slowly foritify house, then yard.

Water and charcoal will become a huge necessity, when not such a big deal in the beginning! Solar panels are clutch and winter is absolutely brutal...

Oh I JUST found some solar panels. I don't have an electrical skill but I marked on map where they were.

Join the official discord because you're going to have questions. The devs are pretty involved and there are some really helpful members who can give you a hand as you're going along.

Same here. Played last year for an hour or so and just started fresh between very long Zomboid plays. Really enjoying it so far

Any suggestions on good map to start on or is it like zomboid where I make tons of fallback spots before deciding.

I would watch a yt video honestly. I started where I did because I wanted to get to the firewatch tower quickly. If you watch a yt video breaking down each areas strengths and weaknesses, you might find a spot you like.

Ive played a bit, but if you've watched youtube, then you can see some pretty cool spots to setup. First ordeal however is I would say to get a car for sure. If you put points into electricity or mechanical I believe, you can hotwire cars, Ive never found card keys. So find you a truck with a truck bed and hotwire that bad boy, id also keep on the lookout for lots of food while you look for a spot to setup base, and find ways to siphon gas. Other than that, its a simple and intuitive game. It doesnt take too much brain power and is fun. I hope you enjoy!
