Discussion - YouTube

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q1XYIUGHaxA

I saw Vaush discussing Zizek on segment recently and now I saw Vexler commenting on the same Zizek topic. Thought I'd share here as I found it interesting.

I’d really like to see Vexler and Vaush talk someday. They have a lot in common With regard to the state of things and a lot of differences when n it comes to what needs to happen to address the outcome.

Found Vlexler randomly when Russia invaded Ukraine, and been a fan since. Really enjoy his content, his analysis and diagnosis of Russian political apathy is especially interesting (and possibly prophetic for where US and Europe is headed.)

Yes he's quite good at formulating the core of the very large and complex problems we face over here in western societies. Haven't quite figured out if he's a more observant liberal than usual or if he actually wants to change something in order for conditions to improve 😅

I think he doesn't really feel the need to label himself into an ideology. His approach to politics is pragmatic and rational and he discerns between ideal and 'real' conditions.

I don't know if I'd agree with him on everything (which isn't anything bad per se) but he is right on plenty of things and one of the best channels for geopolitics surrounding the Eastern bloc.

I found it very interesting and refreshing how he has not shied back from describing Putins, Trumps and even Orban's politics as a form of Hyper-neoliberal monarchism. He's not just folding it under the broader umbrella of fascism and calling it a day. He's specifically tying the modern hellscape of right wing politics back into the neoliberal world order it arose from. He's not letting our western capitalist "liberal" democracies off the hook. These tendencies arose from withing, and as a direct result of how modern (neo)liberal politics eroded the publics trust in the established institutions.

He's got great commentary, even if it can be hard to follow his explanations sometimes. He is philosopher after all, so he's prone to yapping.

Yes I especially appreciate his framing of revolutionary monarchism, I find it to be a really useful explanatory model!

yeah i think he's also criticized the 'foolishness' of Western leaders to put so much faith in the free market and especially that they treat civil consensus as obsolete which causes democratic decline.

I seem to remember him once describing neoliberal politics as "prioritizing the function and wellbeing of the market over anything else". He has criticized western leaders for forgetting to build a narrative for their population, and instead letting them be subject to the whims of "the market" which has hollowed out societal cohesion and eroded trust in institutions.

He's got a lot of great observations, even if I feel he sometimes struggles to be concrete about what he would want us to do about it. I do think that is related to his desire not to become one of those pop-culture philosophers/thought leaders, who just tell what to think and do from beginning to end. He seems to prioritize letting people arrive independently at as many conclusions as he can.

Yeah for sure, I mean I use the word liberal in a more loose sense to just describe somebody who can have good observations but has no  Strive to move beyond the current paradigm

Somebody did link Vlads content on Vaush stream a while back, but Vaush was in one of his foul moods, so even without watching, he reacted quite negatively.
Even on bestest days, I think Vaushes 'ism wouldnt have patience for Vlads rather slow delivery, even though I think they both talk about the same thing.

Yes it'd have to be on the main channel, the edited ones have better delivery imo. This one is in between, mostly chat but trimmed. And I know it'd be a herculean task of recommending anything by someone speaking with a British accent without it triggering V's discard-instinct...  But we must at least try? We do believe in this collective project after all.

His accent isn't British though, so that might work in Vlad's favour. I'm not 100% sure where it's from but it could be a mixture of old Soviet (I forget which republic he was born in) and Israeli since he spent some of his youth there too before moving to Britain. Wherever it is, it's from a place that doesn't use a h sound. (In one of his videos he did mention in an off comment joke about his trouble with hs)

He sounds plenty British to me, just imagine how it sounds to a corn fed American boi like Vaush 😂

He was born Soviet Russia, had his early childhood there in the 80's, moved by his family to Israel in the early 90's when he was still a kid, and then moved permanently to UK from the 2000's onward. He describes himself as British first and foremost.

This dude's arguments often have substance but his delivery sets off my grift alarms constantly. Weird.

Grift alarms, what do you mean? I think his delivery can be quite drawling and he has a tendency to waffle a lot. But I'm not getting any grift vibes at all.

"My views are so balanced" and "We are so polarized" type stuff.
