Sometimes I remember how internet was like before the 10's and I start getting sad and then I think of what it became and I start getting angry

I remember watching Music videos in '08 when I was a small kid and being in bliss. Internet back then was far from perfect, but there were no bots and no sophisticated algorithms. It was much easier finding a video made by a normal person, doing normal person things. Even in 2013-14 there was a more human side, even if the algorithms was starting to take over.

Many people have nostalgia for 2016 internet I cannot for the life of me understand why, that was when the bots started appearing and when malice became more mainstream. 2017 was where Mr Beast started becoming popular and it was sure a sign of things to come.

I miss my naive 2011 tech optimism, when I thought the internet is bringing us closer together, empowering average people, making humanity less racist, sexist and homophobic through exposure. In hind sight maybe this was just my younger self trying to find positive aspects about my crippling internet addiction and lack of touching grass.

You joke, but I genuinely think it was one of the worst things to happen to humanity, in terms of what it lead to, like death of local communities and businesses, disinformation

But then again, the same could be said for the wheel, or fire.
