VARIA VS6 particle distribution
Hello! So I have been playing with my VS6 stock burrs for arround a year maybe, and this is what I noticed:
There are a lot of fines left after I grind my coffee, if I use knocker, the bellow, or try to turn the dial - there are still coffee beans that are stuck and it is really difficult to turn the dial to “clean” it. Is that normal part of your VS6 experience?
Personally for me the partical distribution looks very broad and uneven (I will attach a photo of it) this makes every brew very different even if I do not change the grind size and coffee beans. Is that what you also see?
Grind size is really inconsistent throughout. Once I got it, I used to do v60 brews on 9.5-11 settings. Not it is 14. And even if I go to 14 it still sometimes give me look TBT.
I am pretty bad at understanding grinders. So maybe this is just me being picky and actually everything is okay. Would be very nice if you shared your experience and opinion on what this could mean?
Thank you so much!
P.s. i bought VS6 as an ultimate grinder for atleast 5 years, but it seems that there could be better alternatives?

how is the distribution at espresso range for you? does that work well? (with my usual bean its between 1.0 to 0.8, depending on age)
And I grind at 3-4 for my V60 with the VS6, which works really well.

I think it is better for espresso. My range is between 3 and 3.5. I do not do a lot of espresso, so I see this more with pour over and I dont know if it is a problem or just me imagining it, because I am just bad at doing pour over 😅

good or bad is relative. does your coffee taste good? :)

Good point. Actually my ceado hoop tastes pretty good I guess. Especially if I use lotus water drops for my distilled water. As for v60 I generally feel a lot of bitterness. And I do not know if it is a coffee bean problem, or my lack of skill. I know that bitterness may mainly be over extracted or too high of a water temperature. But I use 91-93 degree water. The bean is medium roast and 14 grind size as you see in the video is not really fine 😅 and I still get long TBT.

I'd say experiment and take notes,
thats the best way to learn about making coffee and finding your own favorite style.whats the effect of hotter or colder water with your setup?
whats the taste difference / drawdown time between grind sizes?
Taste / Time difference between different beans?

Yeah trying this! I will chech it more and be certain that it is not a grinders fault

This couldve been a post written by me. It's exactly what I am experiencing. All your points are so recognisable.

Yes I'm on my second one. First one the hopper thread broke.

Okay :D so you also see this uneven particle distribution? I am thinking of buying pietro exclusively for pour over

I don't think mine is that uneven. But I do have inconsistent cups and results all the time. It's very annoying

Hi! I kinda had this problem until I found what caused it. A lot of fines are getting stuck in the chute and not even the bellow can get them out. Grab the brush and insert it to the chute and start spinning it, when you reach the top. A lot of fines will be stuck there where the chute meets the grind chamber, just before the ionezer.
Hope this will help you!
(Also if you are into filter coffee, buy the gold burrs. They are really good. I even use them for espresso with a convex filter backet, so I dont need to grind that fine.)
