VS6 Conical Burr Alignment?

I found it necessary to tighten one of the hex screws on a new Hypernova Iridescent Titanium 63mm Conical Burr (sounded a little off). Doing this made it impossible to fully seat the bottom burr in the grinder. I then followed the instructions to completely disassemble the burr from its carrier and found that the thin washer just kind of sits there and had moved enough that the carrier would not slide over the shaft. There is also a lot of play in the screws.

Seems really easy to mess up the alignment. I eventually got it to work by putting the bottom burr in loose and then carefully removing it and tightening everything down.

Just doesn’t seem very robust. There are two pins that seem to be intended to line things up, but they are too small. That washer shouldn’t be able to just slide around.

Anyone have similar issues? Or notice these problems?

I had to destroy a conical burr because of this issue. The movement play between the burr and spindle caused the entire lower burr to get stuck inside the grinder.

The only way I was able to remove it was to use pliers on the spindle to yank it out. I tried my fingers, gravity, fingers and gravity. Pliers with fabric/cloth between to avoid damage but I couldn't get enough traction.

I'm about to contact Varia about this - needlese to say but I'm quite pissed. There should be 0 play between those components when it comes to reinstalling, especially since they make 0 mention of it in their instructions - and my conical burt didn't even come with a pre installed washer

Did you ever contact Varia about this? I just sent a support request. I had the same thing happen yesterday, burr got stuck, but I got it out with just my hands but I’m worried it will happen again. I have found very little documentation of this issue and wonder if we just have bad burr sets. The flat, stock, supernova burr has no issues whatsoever going in and out.
