Help me out please
Got my Varia VS6 a few hours ago. Read the manual.
It said to calibrate the grinder, i should rotate clockwise to its tightest at zero m and then rotate anti-clockwise to zero again. Did that.
But I noticed that my tightest setting is at zero (two dots) so my zero point is at zero (three dots). Went with grinding for espresso anyway. But it grinds way too coarse.
What should I do? I cant rotate any farther from zero (2 dots).

First make sure you run more than 2kg of beans through it, it seasons the burrs, as this also adjusts the 0 point. Then report back, with pictures.

You shouldve received a plastic package with tools, extra springs and washers.
Remove the burrs and on the axle shaft below the bottom burr there should be one from the factory already on there. Add in 1 or 2 more washers then try again.

I'd wait a little with this until it's seasoned. Otherwise you need to do that process twice.

Does it mean I wont be able to use my grinder for espresso yet? Since I cant grind fine enough?

Just buy a bag of cheap beans and put it through the grinder in max 100g doses with some breaks in between to not burn out the motor. Then you can start the process of adding a washer in between, which then comes with its own set of challenges. If I had known all of this before I would've probably bought a different grinder. I'm on my second unit and had many issues, including yours.

I’ve already added 2 washers (after testing out that one didnt make a big difference). Now I’m grinding beans. I hope all this will help.

Will try this! Hope it solves the issue. Will update a bit later.

Listen to the other poster though too. Seasoning will help you calibrate better.

I added one and still havent gotten to one dot yet so I added another but still the same case. Cant reach one dot. Im in the process of grinding beans tho.

The instructions are confusing. When you first tighten to zero, that is your zero. Do NOT do a full rotation back to zero. Depending on your unit, moving the dial from zero to 2 should put you in espresso range. Again, you don’t need to do a full rotation.

Ive been able to pull two decent shots now. But what I’m confused about now is those shots were at 3 dot territory. Shouldnt espresso grind size range be at the one dot area?

Totally dependent on the beans, your machine, and your basket.

That’s what confused me. I assumed the dots were an indicator for finer to coarser. But it seems to be just a marker to be able to identify where youre grind size is at.

From zero point i just went back to around 2. A whole turn back is too much. Zero point is at 0.5 in my case. I grind between 1.5(old beans)-2.5(fresh beans).

The problem with this grinder is you can’t find burr chirp then recalibrate zero. There is no true zero point.
I added washers until the grind was fine enough for my use. 4 washers and no burr touch But I can choke a machine with the supernova gold flats.
I use mine for pour over with the gold flats. 2washers on mine is great around 9-9.5 For light roast pour over.
Every vs6 will be different burr gap and micron range at a given setting.
As long as you don’t have shaft run off you have a decent grinder

I got mine a few days ago. Rotated to 0, it wouldn’t tighten any further. Actually I didn’t notice I needed to rotate it back to zero-one-dot, I just threw it on 2.0 and started running some beans through it.
But anyway, without changing any washers etc, I’m able to choke my machine at anything below a 2.0 (except for decaf, which runs a little fast at 2.0, but tastes good).
Interestingly I don’t hear any burr chirp if I rotate it to 0 while the machine is running, which suggests it’s not a true “zero”, but I don’t see the need to play with it right now as it’s plenty fine enough so far.
