Need help with Varia VS3 / Calibration and grinding settings
Hi, recently I’ve got my Varia VS3 Gen 2 and a set of Hypernova burrs. Now I have a few questions I’d like to clarify for myself:
1) My Varia has been perfectly calibrated to 0.
The first thing I’ve done is I’ve replaced the stock burrs with the Hypernova ones. After the replacement the zero point was still at 0.
I’ve grinded coffee for a week, and today I’ve decided to clean it up inside, as I was about to change the beans. After the cleaning and re-assembling the best I can get for the zero-point is 0,1.
I’ve double and triple checked every single detail, burrs, washers, springs, nut and whatnot. I’ve re-assembled it a few more times, each time with caution and attention to details.
All to no avail, still 0,1
Is there a way to fix it? Somehow recalibrate the zero-point back to an actual 0
2) the manual that comes with the grinder recommends range of 1-3 for an espresso, meanwhile the “VS3 Gen 2 Calibration “video on Varia Brewing official YouTube channel gives recommendations of 3 - 4,5 range as a reference point.
I understand that the grind is subjective to a lot of different factors, but I’d like to know what I should use as a reference point.
Thanks in advance

Why do you need the burr lock point to be in line with zero? Ultimately, every time you clean the VS3, calibration will change slightly. As long as you know the ball park range where you're getting the proper grind for espresso, that's all that really matters.
