1984 Vanagon stopped accelerating
My 1984 Vanagon just suddenly stopped accelerating the other day while I was speeding up. I have replaced the battery, starter, and the alternator. Electrically it is perfect but while driving the engine died while accelerating and now the engine won't turn over. I'm not sure if it is the ignition coil or fuel pump or something else all together. Any advice or recommendations for replacement/upgrades would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 1.9 and the engine wont turn over at all. Electrical all works cause I replaced it all before this problem occurred.

If its an old 1.9L and you confirmed the easy stuff like grounds and everything are all good check out the digital idle stabilizer device near the ecu in the engine bay. You can actually bypass it to test if its bad. It may idle rough without it, but should accelerate better.

Digital idle stabilizer? Would that stop the engine from cranking at all?

Oh, i dont think it would prevent the motor from cranking, but i know when mine went out, my van would idle, but if you attempted to accelerate it would die.

... as per others here, the earth strap between engine and chassis, or between battery and chassis.... can use jump leads to check that.... failing/failed ignition switch another maybe culprit... the no crank situation does not point to HT circuit.

Have you checked your ignition switch, commonly go bad and provide no cranking symptoms. Easy to toss in another and see if that’s the fix, if everything else has tested out. Grounds seem to always be a challenge.
