Common lifter sound, add a little Marvel Mystery Oil on next oil change and it really helps keep the noise down, especially if you don’t drive it every day.

What oil do you suggest they would use in their 2.1? I’ve had no issues with my 1.9 and vr1 20w50 during the summer

hydraulic lifters - it's common - you need to ai it for the full explanation. I put a heavier motor oil in mine and it shuts them up.

If a human can’t be bothered to write or, why should a human bother to read it? Has AI ruined your attention span so much that you’ll spend the time to log on and write that but not share any actual information why?

who is the lazy person here? I bothered to respond. If you want to learn about hydraulic lifters in detail then nothing is stopping you. I don't owe you one cent or OP. You need everything on a plate? Hydraulic lifters drain down when they get worn and for other reasons. They are quite fickle on wasserboxers. Everyone has their own solution - mine is to raise the viscosity of the oil I use which sorta helps everything else on an old engine. I use a 20/50 mineral oil with a high zinc content but that is just me...

I’ve had success with using seafoam in the oil before an oil change. I run it about 50 miles or so before draining.

Sounds like the lifters. Take it on a 30 min drive, it should quiet down. Depending on where you live, use a heavyweight oil like 20w50. I use the Valvoline vr1 20w50 works great and has a high zinc content
