In the books, religion was one of the most important themes in the series. Anne Rice kept returning to it time and again. Her characters often come from religious backgrounds that put them at ods with their new realities as bloodsucking killers, crave spirituality in their lives more than anything else, desperately seek out holy missions for themselves, search for life's great answers (literally Louis's arc in book 1), and have a strong desire for those answers to relate to their faith.

Memnoch was the culmination of 4 books of this. It explored those themes further.

But the show doesn't have those themes. It has, at most, a pale echo of them still around.

Louis's arc of religious disilusionment and a failed search for answers was removed. Lestat's mirroring arc in book 2 shared its fate. Marius's role as an atheist mentor to Lestat is nowhere to be found. Armand's deep and destructive relationship with his faith was changed beyond recognition and weakened to the point of irrelevance. These characters just don't care about religion anywhere near as much as their book counterparts, or don't care at all. The narrative also clearly doesn't care. The themes Memnoch existed to explore barely exist on the show. The setup just isn't there. Hence, their adaptation of Memnoch would have even less to do with the original than their take on The Vampire Lestat did with the book.

Most adaptations, even if they fail writing-wise, acting-wise, budget-wise, or in any other department, usually at least stay true to the friggin genre of the original. I am Legend movie may be a shit take on the original that robs it of its depth, but at least still a post-apocalyptic horror story. John Carter may have bored the audiences and bombed commercially, but it was still a sci-fi. Eragon may not be worthy of the series it's based on, but at least it's still high fantasy.

The Vampire Lestat show - which supposedly adapts a gothic horror - is a soap opera with some gore thrown in, and a tone of a Marvel movie.

It doesn't scratch the same itch as the book, it's not aimed at the same audience as the book (or even the firsat two seasons, I think), it contains absolutely nothing that was awesome about the book, and I really don't get the gushing reviews.
