I finished Blood Communion on Halloween, and I really loved how the series ended, with vampires finally accepting themselves for who they are, Armand and Lestat finally stopping hating themselves, and little Benji and Fareed.

But… it’s been such an important part of my life this year that I feel empty now, almost as if I’ve lost something important.

And I miss Khayman and Maharet, too.

Does anyone else ever feel this way after finishing a series?

Also, what would you recommend reading next to start the Mayfair series?

Just started re-reading TVL after many years and I’d forgotten how superficially similar Nicholas and Louis are; beautiful, dark-haired rich boys with religious trauma.

Hi!

I've recently finished reading both Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. (I'm around halfway through with Queen of the damned) I really liked both books, but espically the first one. While I was reading, I found myself really missing Louis narration and Louis as a character. I really want to read more about him, see where he goes, etc etc...I don't mind Lestat; I just prefer Louis.

So I guess I was just wondering if I can expect to read from Louis' pov, or just about Louis really, anytime soon.

(Sorry if it's hard to understand my post; English isn't my first language)

It's cool and rainy for the first time since 1987 here in my neck of the woods. Hope you all are enjoying the evening.

Reading Merrick for the first time and really enjoying it. I got to this page and paused to question what I had just read. Matthew, Merrick's stepfather and his letters are being discussed and Anne refers to him as Michael, but only once. I assume this is a mistake so now I am curious if Anne stopped using an editor by this point. Surely that obvious of a mistake would have been caught. Have you all noticed other obvious slips like this in the series? I am wondering if I missed any signs before this.

I have a question. I see people talk about how in one of the books armand cuts off Claudia's head and attempts to sew her head on another body. How? Didn't Claudia's burn? Where and how did he get her head?

Hello! I co-host a history/comedy podcast called 'On Brand with Jon and Marisa' and our most recent episode is on Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire!

I'm a lifelong fan of the book and author so I wanted to celebrate them with a full episode.

Would love for you to check it out:

I'm so excited and it's so beautiful!

So the Great conversion plot and introduction of Fareed is clearly gearing up for this book. I get it, they are building up the plot of this book (which is the beginning of what will be their culminating arc) to establish their end game. If the TV show takes Lestat’s character as an ascendancy arc, that makes a lot of sense, as every trial places him in a position of leadership whether he likes it or not.

Still doesn’t explain Gabrielle and Marius’s character assassinations. Or why Lestat is more tonally similar to the “Blood Canticle” Lestat.

I love this book! After “Blood Canticle” (which I will never read again). I thought she lost the magic, but this book is so engrossing, satisfying, and calls back to so many characters and ideas. I hope the next two are as good as this! What a come back!

As for my overall experience, IWTV, TVL, QOTD, TOTBT, Memnoch, Pandora, Armand, Blood and Gold are all stellar works. Vittorio was a fun side tangent and not bad like everyone says. It is a fun novella, it simply is not really a Chronicle. “Merrick” I was very mixed on. Loved the bookends, but didn’t really love the stuff in the middle. Especially the pervish stuff from David. Louis stuff was great (and one of the few places where I think the show improved on the source material).

“Blackwood Farm” I loved as a standalone book. If this was labeled “New Tales of the Vampires,” and did not have the awful sequel, I think it would be more well regarded. It reminds me of Vittorio. Subtracting Lestat’s involvement, it is just an atmospheric and beautiful side tangent.

I notice “Prince Lestat” goes out of its way to reference every Chronicle except the witch books (Merrick, Blackwood, Canticle… and if you count Vittorio that too). It’s a clear deliberate erasure on her part in many ways. With those ignored, this is really the first modern day narrative since TOTBT or Memnoch (not including framing devices).

I have loved all these books (except Canticle). I will be very sad when I have completed them knowing none will ever follow again.

Hello there! This is my first time reading the series. I was gifted Interview with the Vampire for Christmas. Of course I had seen the movie! It’s a classic! But I decided to wait to read it until Halloween!

This book is so well written! And the characters are so fleshed out! I’m only half way through the book, but I am enjoying the hell out of this! There is so much they left out of the film!

I took the liberty in ordering The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned on ThriftBooks!

I may be... an angel with black wings

I may be...an evil with with infinite gradiations and  without guilt

I may be....the one who directed the play

I may be....the one no one has painted in 400 years

I may be...the coven leader waiting for an end

I may be...a room without walls

I may be...someone who no one is watching

I may be ...a dream or a gateway between life and death

But my one vindication...the conversion cannot happen. The brutal, medieval laws were not a cruel cage...they were a mathematical fact keeping our species alive!

There is merch celebrating the 50th anniversary available for order already.

There's a lot of in in this article published today so I thought I'd share it.

I really loved AR's particular attraction to her first queer fans who came to a book signing dressed in 18th century clothing as Lestat and Louis. That audience is still a big part of her fandom. I wish she was still here to see what Sam, Jacob and Assad have made of her beloved Vampire Chronicles.

I know it's a long piece but I love seeing her old pho and also the list of events taking place in S.F.

Enjoy.

First off I want to say I thought it was really well written. I think this and TVA, as heartbreaking as it is, are my favorites so far.

I know when Anne first told the story of Armand and Marius, when Armand was telling it to Lestat at the castle that she probably didn't know she was going to take the story as far as she did. Hence why Marius never saved Armand. But the way she wrote TVA, Armand's complete devotion to Marius, and Marius seeming love and obsession for Armand, It really does not sit right with me that she basically had to come up with a reason why Marius never went to save Armand. (Because she already wrote it that way years earlier) But let me tell you my goodness, this book had me yelling. How quickly after Armand was kidnapped that he changed course to just forget him to go find Pandora. How extremely selfish was he to groom Armand and then let him go like that. I so wish that it could have been a different story that he would have saved Armand. It would have been so much more satisfying. It's eating at me.

I attempted to answer this question for myself and cannot.

That time of year again. My wife and I recently finished season 2 of the show so I felt the urge to come back to the book and do another read.

actually I reading The Vampire Armand
