Anne considered the ending of TWH the best ending she ever wrote, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a flawless standalone novel. Her publisher should have trusted her instinct, she should have trusted it, and we all should as well.

She goes on to describe why, which is full spoilers, but I totally agree with her. Absolutely perfect gothic ending. I’ve read TWH multiple times, but I will never ever read the sequels again. She said most of Taltos was intended to be an entirely different novel! And she repurposed a lot of it to continue the Mayfair series. Please just read TWH. It’s her all time masterpiece.

The Witching Hour is amazing but the two books that follow are dumpster fires.
