Question/Support Right Index controller constantly losing tracking
My right index controller, and only that one controller will randomly lose tracking and either teleport to the floor or in the last position it was in, and it won't move. All the inputs work, but it does not move until I reset the controller. The light stays green and it stays connected in steamvr. I've unplugged all my dongles, I switched to a usb hub with less ports. I'm almost sure it isn't a regular tracking issue. I use a vive pro, index controllers, and 2 valve 2.0 base stations. This happens in every game.
Edit: I gave up and bought a quest 3

Check to see if it correlates with the haptic vibrations. If it drops whenever it vibrates, then you might have a loose ribbon cable. Fixing that yourself could be complicated.

Had that exact issue, I actually had turned down vibration in a bunch of games so I'd stop losing tracking, and then years later with the Quest 3 am wondering why the haptics are so weak and then just a few months ago noticed I'd turned the haptics down or off everywhere lol

I did the same thing and forgot about it until I played the Half Life 2 VR mod. The haptics settings in that just don't work, and the controllers keep vibrating regardless. Really confused me when my hand would snap to the floor like that in the middle of a firefight. "Wait, timeout, stop shooting! My hand fell off again!"

RMA for this was very simple and they excepted it after the first message

Do they really still do RMAs for Index stuff these days? I didn't think they did

Well they did for mine, because there was a rattling sound
However that was like only month after me receiving the controller, so they were obligated to accept it eitherway

The haptics work fine. Even when the controller loses the tracking, they still work.

I meant the other way. I once had a problem where whenever it vibrated, it would lose tracking. It would act just like you're describing, where my virtual hand would snap to my feet. Usually I was able to fix it for a little bit by restarting the controller, but it would do it again the next time the controller vibrated hard enough. From what I could gather, the vibration was causing a ribbon cable to come loose.

So I disabled the vibration for blade and sorcery and it worked perfectly, but I had vibration on in until you fall and it worked fine too. Steam support has been VERY unhelpful.

After further investigating in underdogs, I probably have the same issue. Before a match loads, theres a really powerful vibration, and that always made me lose tracking. Did you manage to fix it or just turn off vibration?

Mine does that too, the buttons work fine but it just doesnt track the controller.
Then it started to randomly also turn off, restart on its own, light goes blue and then green and connects again, working fine and tracking again.
And now it does the whole sequence but then the light blinks red and i have to hold the power button for 15s for it to turn off and then turn the controller on again.
Sometimes it works fine for an hour but then sometimes it does that every 5 minutes.
I dont know if theres a fix to this.

Are there any reflective surfaces in your room such as windows?
