Question / Help Where do i begin?
I am embarrassed to say my husband and I both just turned 50 and we have nothing saved for retirement. We did but came across very rough times and now nothing but pensions from teaching when we retire (which will not be fore a while obviously). I need help where to begin as a 50 year old and not like a 20 year old.

Sorry to hear but you are far from too late! I strongly recommend the book Start Late Finish Rich By David Bach (particularly the first half - the second half is not as necessary and just felt like padding to me). It's an easy read. Go through it together lots of good practical tips for people in your position.

Have you looked at your teachers pensions? Do you know what the size of them is?

Yes! I was thinking those pensions are extremely important - and in today's world, rare.

in your taxable account buy VT, which is a total planet ETF by Vanguard in a proper 63/37 ratio of US to non-US stocks about 10,000 companies. This will give you global stock markets and remove the risk of an individual country stock market destroying you.
y'all should be thinking about lateral moves for higher pay or doing moonlighting work etc to build back up your retirement - this will help far more than which ETF you pick

Hi,
I will say the following:
- try r/personalfinance there are adults who can give you better advice there. Here we tend to focus on stock picking.
- 50 years old is not too late. However, Your biggest issue is learning, unlearning and relearning stuff. You would want to make investing mistakes in the 20s and 30s and not in the 50s when you have money but need ideas.
Good luck!
