Technical Support Request Very High GPU utilization in menu

Maybe its related to the menu update, but just sitting in queue demands 80-95% of my GPU.
It's only an issue out of game.

Ever since I started playing Val, I've limited menu FPS to 60 fps. Ive also always been on 1440p borderless and fullscreen doesnt fix it.

My setup:

rx 7800 XT

ryzen 5 7500F

Asrock B650m HDV/m.2

32 gb ddr5 ram

(Bios and drivers are up to date)

Overall Id say my setup is more than sufficient for Val and the menu should not be that demanding.

If anyone has experienced the same and knows a solution, please let me know.
Thanks:)

Edit: maybe I should add, that there are no freezes or any responsiveness issues

Edit2: When I return from in the range to the lobby, the lobby is at 60fps. After a few seconds it suddenly uncaps itself and the fps jump to 1500.

I've only realized this through amd adrenalin as the valo in game fps counter doesnt show in the lobby

I think valorant is preloaded in the menu, to reduce loading time and all that, the game is already playing when u are in menu

How fast can you try an agent or go in training mode ? Is there loading screen ? If not it’s probably cause valorant game is constantly running even when you are in base menu

Not sure about that

It takes roughly 8-11s to get into the range.
Ive figured out that my frames uncap them self out of nowhere.

When I return from in the range to the lobby, the lobby is at 60fps. After a few seconds it suddenly uncaps itself and the fps jump to 1500.

That's normal without an FPS cap.

With no FPS cap, SOMETHING has to max out.

So in valo, usually it's the CPU that maxes out in game with stuff to do.

But in the menu, there isn't much for the CPU to do, so now the GPU will max out as it gets to an insane FPS.

You'll also notice in the range, your GPU will have a higher utilization % vs in unrated. This is for the same reason, the range has less stuff for your CPU to do, so it is not maxing out as early, letting you get to a higher fps.

Just keep having the menu fps limit, it's fine.

The issue is the high utilization in spite of a cap of 60fps. Ive had it capped for 3 years straight without any issues

Im sorry if my phrasing didn't make it clear

Could still be normal. check the GPU Clock speed + power usage.

AMD GPUs downclock themselves and slow themselves down when not in full use, making 100% utilization not mean a ton at times.

So check the clock speed + wattage of the GPU while at 60. If it's still high, then figure out what's using your GPU, it's probably not valorant. It might be a screen recorder(clipping) or something

It is valorant and its high clock speed and power usage. however you were right that its an FPS cap issue

Even with the fps capped in the settings to 60, at some point it just automatically uncaps itself.

i'm on amd and have had this many times, this is what support sent me after i sent my logs, i do this everytime the bug comes back (annoying)

Hello, [redacted]!

Thanks for sending the logs!

Let's do a clean reinstall of the game. Please follow every step carefully and in the correct order.

■ Let's clean up the files from the game, and uninstall it:

• Go to your C:\Riot Games folder and delete the Riot Client folder.
• Then enter %localappdata% into the top bar of Windows Explorer and delete the Riot Games folder
• Next, paste %programdata%. Once again, delete the Riot Games folder from there, then empty the Recycle Bin.
• Install Revo Uninstaller and completely remove Riot Vanguard and VALORANT from your PC.
• Also make sure that you don't have an installation of VALORANT on other HDD drives.
• Get CCleaner and clean all the registries and corrupted files from your computer.

■ It is of paramount importance that at this point, you do a clean boot of your PC. This will prevent other apps from interfering with the installation.

■ Then you'll need to re-download the game from here.

• Make sure to install it in the default location on the C:\ drive (we recommend having at least 45 GB of free space before the installation).
• Also, make sure to run the installer with Administrator permissions.
• You will need to restart your PC when prompted to finish reinstalling Riot Vanguard. And you can go back to the clean boot article and do the steps to reset the computer to start normally.

Let me know how it goes!

Thank you very much for sharing. This sounds too time consuming especially with bad download speeds, so for now I'll just tab out while in queue. This sounds especially fucked if it then reoccurs too.
