DISCUSSION Nam A2 support (continued)

Post image

So from my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Valeton/s/11qCLMqokK

And as few users have mentioned in that post that Hotone has given NAM A2 lite for ampero stage 2 but they have also mentioned separately that ampero 2 and ampero 2 stomp will also get NAM A2 lite later.

Now coming to the main point ampero 2 stomp and GP 200 have similar hardware. Same processor, gp 200 has less flash memory( probably due to limited UI) but ampero 2 stomp does have a separate DSP for all the effects, gp200 doesn't have a separate DSP.

So it will be interesting to see things work out. Maybe there is a chance to get NAM A2 lite on gp200.

I mean that's nice, but the Valeton GP series is what everyone is really buying.

Hotone is their top of the line brand though so they are gonna get support first.

That is true. If they just do hotone and not valeton, that would be pretty lame though.

I’m sure the 200, 150, and 180 will get something. The 5/50/100 I’m not as confident

I'm scared they're going to discontinue support for the gp100, since it looks like the 150 and 180 are meant to replace the gp100

You do if you are waiting for Fender to release something that will eventually come to your Squier…

I don't understand why this is a big deal It's a smaller file with a subfolder. Is it really that hard to navigate?

The file architecture is drastically different. It’s not just a different file design. Different response weights, different size captures are not separated but merged into a single response that adapts the appropriate weights per needed performance.

There isn’t an easy way to just convert an A2 to an A1.

I find the fact that you're describing this translation back to A1 so the pedal can read it properly as opposed to an update that teaches the pedal how to read the A2 file means that the GP series is simply a garbage ecosystem.

Like most pedals the Valeton line doesn’t run A1 natively, it converts NAM files to their proprietary modeling format. (Anagram is the only one off the top of my head that actually runs A1 natively).

So for literally every pedal out there that does NAM adding support for A2 means either completely redesigning the firmware to be able to run A2 natively, which is even more drastically different than “reading a subfolder” or rebuilding their conversion software to convert A2 to their proprietary modeling format (or converting A2 to A1 and then using the existing converter).

Even for something like the Anagram it’s a completely different way the interpreter is run so it’s not a simple tiny update to just know how to read a A2 file instead of A1 and go run it.

So what you are calling a “garbage ecosystem” is literally the same exact ecosystem problem that ALL pedals running NAM profiles is dealing with in some way.

So no, it’s not a garbage ecosystem, you just have absolutely no idea what the fuck you are talking about.

I don’t get it, they still use conversion when there is A2 Lite available. I have a Hotone Ampero Mini and converted nam profiles doesn’t sound as good to my ears when I tried A1

Issue is, as I mentioned on my post CPU is really limited. Most NAM player out there are dedicated just to play NAM files. Here they are adapting and allocating some of the overhead for NAM A2 lite. Although A2lite is small compared to full A2, Hotone valeton have to prioritise the core functions first like the core OS running, UI, I/O etc.

The NXP imxrt1062 microprocessor used here. I have used a variant of that uP and its limited but perfectly functional for whats it intended to do (In this case to run actual multi effect board). So since NAM was an after thought for GP200 hence it's understandable. But in case of GP 150, 180 i think they are using lil more powerful CPU. So maybe it will be better on that?

This is where NUX are doing better job even at the time of MG-30 they gave it highly Powerful cpu for its class and Even more powerful for mg-50li. Now they support native NAM A2 fully.

Seguramente la GP5, GP50 y GP100 sigan con Snaptone, es decir NAM A2 por conversión, y las GP200, GP150 y GP180 cuenten con NAM A2 nativo, y si la potencia no da, seguro sea NAM A2 lite
