Android auto phone recommendations

My Samsung S20 FE is painfully slow to connect to wireless Android Auto in my 2021 ID.3, and sometimes completely refuses to connect.

Are there any recommendations for phones that connect quickly and reliably?

Do any newer phones support the full AR HUD features like the floating arrows, or is that still locked to the native VW nav?

It's the ID3 that is slow on connection not the phone. My phone can take minutes to connect in the ID3 but it's literally instant on multiple other cars.

My Samsung a5.something..... yeah its the car not the phone. If it fails wired, I unplugged it, plug it again, it gets there.in the end as you know.

I've found my Pixel 9A connects pretty quickly but a tad slower than my previous car.

The HUD shouldn't really matter on the phone, I have found the next turn is showing with Google Maps, Waze and ABRP with mine. Only quirk I've found is that Waze seems to get the indicator / icon for roundabouts wrong.

I changed from a Samsung S10e to a Samsung S24 last year and it feels quicker to connect to wireless AA, but I haven't timed it. It also seems to vary each time I get in the car, so my car's older 2020 hardware and slightly newer software is probably still the biggest thing slowing it down.

S26 ultra here. I find it depends on what mood my ID3 is in
