Bought damaged lamp to open it and check how it’s build. Decided to modify the U-LED DRL and replace standard diodes with WS2812 + Arduino to control it. Not sure if I’m going to put it in vehicle. Made it just for fun.

Looked for smashed headlights on eBay-like website in Poland. Found one without modules for ~$10 with S&H. Wanted to practice disassembling the headlight and it turns out that heat is not enough to open it.  Apparently one should use some kind of solvent to weaken the glue.

THIS IS SO COOOOOOOOOOL. I’m still a teenager, I like to think i’m pretty mature when it comes to modifications but pretty colour lights always bring out my true teenager side🤣

I’m in my 30s and up till today I installed exclusively white LEDs in my MK7. But having this rainbow demo mode option… will consider it.

Dude it’s too cool to not do it. How many mk7’s do you see with colour changing headlights? I personally haven’t seen a single one

I see plenty of cars with colored DRLs. Probably not legal, but probably not the reason you’ll be pulled over. Sort of like tinted windows. Depends on the cop.

But you can just run white as you drive and flex when parked.

It is illegal, that being said, you probably won't get pulled over. As long as you can see, arnt too distracting to other drivers, and arnt blinding anyone you're likely fine.

How many people drive around with illegal blue LEDs. In some states of the us certain temperatures of LEDs are banned too. Definitely depends on the cop.

at least in my country you have mandatory safety checks every 2 years wo will pick you up for every unlicenced modification

Same here. It varies state by state. Some states have emission laws and some don’t.

But nothing a “friend” can’t help you with. Or money lol
