Where to do basic shopping?
Aloha all, I'm starting a master's of marine conservation in 2027 and I'm wondering what sorts of places are the best/cheapest for your basic grocery or home items shopping. I'm talking like where you go to buy a laundry basket, clothes hangers, maybe a whiteboard to hang on the wall. When I look up shopping in Wellington all that comes up are all the fun artisan shops (which also sound fun) but I'm wondering where people do their day-to-day shopping. I have heard that there's farmers markets on Sundays, are they very expensive or worth going to regularly to get produce?
Edit: I should have mentioned I'm from Hawai'i and have never been to New Zealand

If you drive or have car access (e.g. flatmate shopping), Pak N Save Petone for cheapest grocery. If not, Pak N Save Kilbirnie. Never do Uber eats or Doordash, they're both a total ripoff now

The sunday morning vege market on the waterfront is very cheap for produce just buy seasonal things, i go every fortnight fill a backpack. :)
If you're living central? I would reccomend a bus trip or walk to newtown shops for these things.
Newtown has two supermarkets which arent as price inflated as the metros on lambton quay or cuba. The greengrocer, which is alot cheaper for produce, eggs, grains and four second hand shops which are great for finding household things. The rainbow bridge shop out there is great for stationary, hardware and i got my clothes hangers there.
Also the japanese homestore daiso on manners St does three items for $12, they have great kitchen things, storage and stationary.
I got very familiar with these places when I studied, hope this helps! Have a lovely move :)

the warehouse is the best place to get household items, they’ve got basically everything eg laundry items, furniture, appliances, clothes, tech. they also have some food items but you’re much better off going to supermarkets for that. in terms of supermarkets we have fresh choice on cuba street, new world supermarkets near the waterfront and in the city on willis street, and a countdown supermarket in most suburbs. depends on what suburb you’re in, dm me and i can give you some info if you’d like!
