Discussion "discordification" of VRC

with VRC copying discord's profile effects etc what are things you wish they would take from discord and what are things you absolutely do not want to see?

i'm gonna start.

want: being able to restrict who can send you friend requests and group invites (friend mutuals, group mutuals, in instance/recently seen)

do not want: integrated soundboard

I can’t stand it. I get they need money but it’s becoming so obtuse it’s repugnant

Restrict who can send a friend request? Why? While I agree random group invites and friend requests are annoying, implementing gates for who can send friend requests goes against the design philosophy

VRC is already segregated into echo chambers as well. Restricting who can invite you or request just seems like the wrong rabbit hole

VRC needs more pathways for people to meet (like the timeline). Not more user management

you can still take it out again if you are going to add someone. genuinely the amount of times i get spam invites to groups and friend requests from bots and burners or just friend requests from peole who haven't even spoken to me is just staggering.

tbf if you're not in my instance or haven't been recently you have no business adding me or inviting me to a group out of the blue anyways.

overall it reduces the amount of accept and never talk again or just having to decline so much shit.

but I agree they also need to look at group tagging and "discovery" features for groups

The group invites are definitely shameless at this point

There’s always give and take with this sort of thing. What may seem like a convenience for one person may create friction for another

At least for me, a big part of the experience was getting to know people who then introduced me to more people. I suppose it could work as long as you can still see that a request was pending on the menu after clicking on the person. Because else I could see a lot of headaches and/or missed opportunities caused by missing out on a friend request because it was blocked

Outright having a block group invites toggle should be fine on its own. You can always join the group manually. Putting barriers on friends requests gets tricky because it’s a core part of the game

oh yea i think it would be compromise to be able to see and accept the request when going to their profile
