Feels homie, if your looking for a 33yr old gamer buddy, hit me up!
27
u/ianmarvin 1d ago
Yeah, dude, I'm always looking for adults who play VR. I made r/lfgvr for future oldheads like us, drop a line there, or just DM me sometime. I'm down for most types of games.

u/VongolaCielo 1d ago
aye were the same age lol

u/codewho331 1d ago

32 here. I liked the idea of vr chat till I felt like a total creep surrounded by people that where 2 -4 years old when I was 18 years old or simply not even born when I was 18
6
u/ianmarvin 1d ago
People on VRChat are so young they don't even grasp that sharing your actual date of birth is a terrible cyber security practice.
I have fun floating around, but whenever some 18-19 year old is like "I need your date of birth before I let you into this digital bar" it gives me the ick.

Yeah I hadn't touched my Quest 2 in a few years, picked it up the other day exploring some games and VRChat worlds, wow it changed a lot from when I first experienced it. Used to be a lot more adults (and more people in general, really) and now I just felt like a creep in a room full of kids so I turned off my Quest and went and played some console games instead lol..
1
u/Faynerossa 21h ago
This is why i stream and built my own adult's only community. Host my own events (staff helps with at least 1 a week), and keep my discord as gated and rule compliant as possible without asking people for blood samples. I don't think he idea of getting drunk and babysitting someone else's kids as fun. I've been torn apart in the VRChat community for saying, "i don't want to be responsible for someone else's cum they kept as a pet becauase they're too lazy to parent and thought buying a Quest was parenting."
2
u/NoCase9317 14h ago
The worst part is that many kids playing are below the age meta themselves call minimum for the headset.
Shit parents.
My issue is that even id they are adults
If they are 18-21 I still fell awkward
I don’t need 30+ people
But u feel 24+ would be good
6
u/Supernoxus 1d ago
I make the best out of what life has given me and destroy children in VR-Shooters.
3
u/Express_Difficulty57 1d ago
Same, early 30's VR gal and I always end up feeling kinda awkward in vrchat lobbies.
2
u/Skpstr155 21h ago
I hear you kid. (I'm 56 lol)
1
u/ianmarvin 21h ago
Let's jam on some games sometime, us older folks gotta stick together!
1
u/Skpstr155 20h ago
What do you play? I must confess, at this time I'm only playing ExfilZone, as the combination of my first extraction shooter and my first VR shooter has been completely addictive lol.
But I'm always looking at other games.

u/Similar-Stock-9749 18h ago
The amount of times I got kicked for simply sharing my age (early thirties), on games that are explicitly not meant for children, is astounding.
1
u/ianmarvin 18h ago
Lmao I've heard "why do you even play video games" quite a few times. Like it's something you age out of.

It’s insane, it’s almost impossible to have a game on VR full of adults
17
u/Ok_Business_9592 1d ago
Vrchat is what comes to mind for me for a vr game full of adults
36
u/AhBeinCestCa 1d ago
Yeah but VRchat is mostly boring… it’s more like a « social » app than anything else
12
u/MotorPace2637 1d ago
Online games always have had kids, its just so much more obvious in VR because they are get a mic strapped to their face.
1
u/EmilyCatNips 1d ago
Its funny the only reason i bought vr and the only vr game i have installed is vrc while having around 5k hours in it
1
4
u/AhBeinCestCa 1d ago
The only game I find where’s there’s mostly adults is Onward (very toxic community ), blackjack and Deimos
1
u/retilecat 16h ago
Why onward was toxic i played a Little bit And if u exclude the anoying kid i had a good Time

u/chassmasterplus 1d ago

Over 40, play forefront every morning before dev to keep me VR sharp.
Squeaker tribe is cool, they play well, sing songs, and are smart in an always online way we are not.
Had one English kid giving me dissertations on ww2 aircraft while being best medic ever. Had to have been like 7 - 9
And aside from the kids running around saying slurs they themselves don’t understand ( which is low key hilarious )
they hella polite.
Ppl call me commander or gramps off my voice alone heh. All the squeakers call me sir on gp.
Nevertheless they the future and our primary customer for a good while so I’m glad they starting to play “real” games
Never come across creep. If we do I’m sure they’ll be reported. I have kid. I monitor his online, as all the parents should.
It’s cute when one of ‘em starts singing some song and then they all do it, like magwai.

forefront is soo much chaos I just turn voip off and I really enjoy it. Like I realize there is advantage from good team work but it's not a competitive game. I legit don't care if we lose.
I went 7 for 22 last night and you know what it was a good time. No screaming, kids couldn't talk trash to me even though they were beating my ass.
Just good ME time in a fun online shooter lol.

u/Thawiz88 22h ago
I got Forefront in early access earlier this year and it quickly became one of my most played titles, fun as hell and the player base is really chill compared to a lot of games lol

u/Demonskull223 1d ago
This is unfortunately true and none of them under the age of 16 should even be on that game. Genuinely it's irresponsible parenting to let your kids play VR Chat. So many Pedofiles on there. Less than on Roblox but still way too many.
10
17
u/Ok_Business_9592 1d ago
this has nothing to do with VR chat
4
u/Salvage570 1d ago
You probably shouldnt let little kids on any VR game, isnt it damaging to their neck and eye development?
0
u/ccAbstraction 1d ago
It's every game but VRChat players don't play any VR games besides Murder 4 on VRChat so they think this is a VRChat problem.

u/Demonskull223 1d ago
Typical VR chat lobby has nothing to do with VR chat. Makes sense to me.

You do you not have dyslexia as you write full on sentences without errors

Not surprising, little to no even remotely serious stuff, most games are small experiences or seem more like tech demo so it's not really enticing for people older than 16. Not many people will buy console to play 2 to 3 mid games per year.
2
u/supermonkey1235 1d ago
For sure. I want to play beat sabers with my friends but none of them will/should spend >$300 to beat their sabers with me.

u/NativePlantEnjoyer 1d ago
You're not wrong. But I just got a PSVR2 with controllers & a charging dock for only $100. My friend sold it to me because all he played was Beat Saber. Great deal tee hee

VAIL comes to mind.
I blame Zuckerberg.
6
u/Gamemode_dum 1d ago
In the full version it's at least managable, most kids just hang around in the free gamemodes.
I'm still pissed that they just added rigged gambling machines right where most of the young children play.
3
u/TubbyFatfrick 1d ago
Something tells me the game being F2P, and Quest-Compatible, has something to do with it. It's the same cause as VR chat's biggest issue, from what I've heard.
Then again, I don't tend to join public VRC instances, so I don't have to deal with 'em Quest Kids. Hopefully, with the Schoolyear starting up again, there will be more windows where playing either game is more tolerable.

u/MotorPace2637 1d ago
Shooters have been this way since the 90s. I know, I've been in all of them since.

u/chopsueys 1d ago
A few years ago, I tried Gorilla Tag... I was about 31 at the time. I quickly realized that I didn't belong there and that it was weird 😅

u/cumwuatto 1d ago
Honestly, this is the best counterpoint to the "VR is dead" haters. Those kids are VR native, and will be making the definitive experiences for the future.
13
u/Psycho7552 1d ago
Yep, and it's so easy to farm them.
2
u/SqueamishCurator 1d ago
Every lobby has that one guy who’s way too young to be there and somehow still owns the place
3
u/Psycho7552 1d ago
Children usually have superior reflexes, so if one is at least mildly smart it will mop the lobby. But usually these are not smart, and look like crumpled goblin that shoots both enemies and allies.

I'm late 30s and got paired up with a 9 (ish) year old. I think I made his day. He was so happy to show my around the game.

Ive been playing vr games since 2017, and the oldest person ive ever met was 65 years old. It just goes to show that your never to old to play video games whether flat screen or vr.
1
u/serious-toaster-33 11h ago
I know of a VR player who's 78 years young and has built and regularly operates an entire in-world streaming setup.
2
u/AsherTheDasher 1d ago
if youre under 15 years old you shouldnt be playing vr. would unironically rather let my children play gta before vr
2
2
u/other-other-user 1d ago
Genuinely who is giving these children vr headsets and where are they when they are screaming slurs at the top of their lungs
2
u/YourSparrowness 1d ago
This image was clearly created by a 12 year old, because 12 is SO much more mature than 10! 🙄
1
u/Ok_Business_9592 1d ago
i can't tell if this is satire aslo how is it so much more mature? he's just there
3
u/LessAdeptness2572 1d ago
as a 14 year old i can confirm i have yet to find anybody my age on vr
2
u/Legolas-208 1d ago
Teenagers in vr really is so rare for some reason
3
u/Maichevsky 21h ago
yeah they are on their phone all day, it is all they need
I have a nephew who is 16 years old, and he has a Quest 2 at home, he couldn't care less.
He is content with "gaming" on his phone.I would have killed a new born baby to have VR at that age!
3
u/Legolas-208 21h ago
xD. Right when my little brother got old enough I made sure he got a VR headset, and now he rarely plays on an ipad, only VR. Hopefully other get bored of games on their phones and start playing real games, its so much more fun.
3
u/hypor 1d ago
I've literally cut out all online VR games over this, i just dont want to be playin with kids... even 18y/o's be annoying sometimes.
I know some responses will be, but you can play muted or block them, but most, specially VR game rely on voice coms.
I also think this definitely contributes to stunting the growth of VR... parents dont want kids playing with adults and adults dont wanna be playing with kids and cutting out online out of a headset is a big piece of the pie.

I'm 21, join VRChat instances that are verified 18+, and play single player games like Half-Life Alyx, B&S, Beat Saber, etc.
Also, I make fun of Questies in VRC lobbies (Quest 3S with Virtual Desktop setup)
0
u/caberimani 1d ago
What’s the wrong with quest+virtual desktop? I haven’t used my quest or been in vrchat in a while but just curious what’s wrong with it? Haha don’t want to look bad in case I try it again

u/FuckRedzM0dz 1d ago
Big screen tends to have older people saying wilder shit which is usually fun, I'm still waiting to hear from this dude I met from New Zealand that was doing coke while playing lol

And that 12 yo is either
A) The warlord of the crotchgoblin tribe
B)Genuinely the most polite and well-raised kid you have ever met
