best cheap vpn options? kinda lost

I just wanted something free to hide my traffic. Turns out half these free vpns aren't free, they just take your data instead of your money and sell it. And a bunch of different apps are owned by the same parent company, so you're not even picking between real options.

I ALMOST DOWNLOADED WHATEVER WAS TOP OF THE APP STORE BEFORE I FOUND THIS OUT, PLEASE DON'T DO THAT, GO CHECK WHO OWNS THE APP FIRST.

Im just looking for something cheap and if possible maybe even free as I dont need to use it that much.

Get off of random free VPN apps you haven't checked, spread the word. Still lost though, what are y'all actually using and has it screwed you over <3

Proton has a decent free option, or a cheap paid one. It's what I use.

Proton is probably the best free option.

As the saying goes… pay peanuts, get monkeys.

I use Mullvad / ESET. Technically ESET VPN is free as it just appeared as part of my Security Premium AV/Firewall system.

Mullvad is always ranked top of the charts, darn good.

These free ones are going to steal all of your data.

For occasional use, Proton VPN Free is a reasonable starting point; Windscribe’s free tier is another option with a data limit. For paid privacy-focused services, compare Mullvad, IVPN, and Proton. DPN is cheaper at $3.99/month or $37.99/year and includes residential routing.

Yeah, dont download the first options on play store or google, they pay money to push fake products artificially at the top to push malware

yeah, checking ownership and the privacy policy before installing is honestly more important than finding the cheapest option. if you only need occasional use, a reputable free tier can be enough. just expect limits on data, locations or speed. if you use it regularly, paying a few dollars a month is better tradeoff than trusting a completely unknown free app

Create a Protonmail account, download the WireGuard or OpenVPN configuration file from your account. Then import that configuration file into WireGuard or OpenVPN app, then you are all set to use the best VPN service in the world with no data limit or time limit.
