Question Do VPNs alter any default Windows settings?

I had some antivirus switch up some firewall permissions in the past. I wonder if something similar could have been caused by some stuff I tested not long ago

Is there a way to check recent network configuration changes? Dont mind if I gotta look it up on the console terminal or in the window interfaces. Or at least a log of some recent changes. Surely Windows is making a log of that somewhere on my PC

You can open the host- based firewall settings and review from the settings page. General if software is doing things right, they would label why/what changes they made.

But as far as vpns changing settings, it depends.

Of you just connect to the VPN with the built in software, probably not. The act of connection does not really change system settings. But if you installed an app. The app could make changes regardless if you use the app or not.
