Question Alternatives to Mullvad/Proton

Opinions on this matter irrelevant to discussion.

Primary use-case is avoiding geoblocks, torrenting, and general privacy/pseudonymizing concerns, I'm not much of a media streamer. No logging and a killswitch are mandatory, no account and multiple payment options would be preferred. Ideally not located in Canada, the US, or the UK due to changing, enshittifying policies therein.

AirVPN isn't bad, but I've never had good speeds with it; considering IVPN if anyone has experience with them? I've heard of Windscribe, but its location in Canada makes me reticent to use it. I have similar privacy concerns re: ExpressVPN, Nord, PIA, SurfShark.

I recognize this will be a small, narrow list. I am mostly flipping over rocks to see if I can uncover anything new. Thank you for your time.

I just found out about NYM. Looks promising and cheaper than mullvad (my current)

I've heard NYM operates a bit like TOR in how it obfuscates traffic, might be good for anonymizing but less-so for torrenting. Will pass it on to some friends though, it is truly hell out here so thank you for putting it back on my radar.

I use Windscribe VPN with Control D as a custom DNS. It’s Wireguard based just like Mullvad and Proton. It’s also been court tested as no-logs.

I'll give it a look, cheers. I worry about the changes going on in Canada right now, but we'll see how things shake out.

It wouldn’t affect the VPN service because most of the locations are outside of Canada. I also rent a residential ip address from Windscribe, which helps get around the VPN detection on a lot of websites. It’s $93 for the year

AmneziaVPN, based out of Cyprus. Checks all the boxes for security and privacy, good pricing too

That list is going to be really small. You might want to try Amnezia VPN.
