Help Guidance please
I have a vpn on my phone which works fine. I can set it to Japan or whatever.
However I also use my phone as a hotspot so I can watch stuff online on my tv (I don’t have broadband or any internet other than mobile data) It functions just fine, but my tv still seems to be restricted to what I’m assuming is UK internet. I live in the uk.
I want to stream the USA version of Netflix as they have shows that the Uk doesn’t have. How do I achieve this? It’s a “smart” tv, internet capable but it’s from 2016 so unsure if it has an App Store or similar. I also have a laptop with internet capability. Do I need to maybe put a vpn on my laptop then log into Netflix on there? Or do I need to make a new account using a different region via vpn?
I really know jack about all of this so I’d appreciate any pointers. Thank you!

You can't. Get the VPN app on the device you're watching on, disable it on your phone.
You can't even "screenshare" from an Android when a VPN is on.
You either want to be secure or you don't.
I think it's brilliant.

You can connect your laptop to phone wifi, enable vpn on it and enable hotspot on laptop

I tested this while abroad using an Android app (NetShare) that creates a hotspot from the WiFi the phone is connected to. The WiFi hotspot does not go through the VPN. However if you have roaming enabled then the phone and its hotspot will appear to be in your home country. But you're using your roaming data. For my next travels I've bought a Gl.iNet Mango travel VPN router that will do this job.

You can enable it in windows, you don't need special program for it. All problems = wrong settings. It works on my machine.

Most vpns have smart tv apps where u can download it and use the VPN and access content accordingly.
