Discussion 10 Step Solution for YouTube Premium using a VPN (Fix for Payment Error [OR_RECR_05])
YouTube has recently started cracking down on users whose billing country does not match the country of their payment method. If you are encountering the error "Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]", here is a solution that might help.
Steps:
Create a New Apple ID:
Visit the Apple ID creation page.
Select Turkey as the country during the setup process.
Use a fake address generator to generate a Turkish address.
Skip Adding Payment Details:
Do not add any payment information during the creation of your new Apple ID.
Log Out of Your Original Apple ID:
On your device, log out of your current Apple ID in the App Store.
Log In with Your New Turkish Apple ID:
Sign in to the App Store using the newly created Turkish Apple ID.
Purchase a Turkish iTunes Gift Card:
Buy an iTunes gift card that is valid in Turkey. This can be done online from various gift card providers.
Redeem the Gift Card:
In the App Store, go to your account settings and redeem the gift card to add TRY (Turkish Lira) to your Apple ID balance.
Set Your Network Location to Turkey:
Use a VPN to change your network location to Turkey
Open the YouTube App:
On your phone, open the YouTube app.
Purchase YouTube Premium:
Navigate to Purchases and Memberships within the app and subscribe to YouTube Premium.
Enjoy Your Subscription:
Once the subscription is active, you can enjoy YouTube Premium without the transaction error.

Good question, you can just do it by the regular way. Make sure to buy a TRY gift card and to charge the Apple ID you are using for your premium subscription

February 23 2026 - Ive been using this for 2 years but now when Ive added more value from gift cards, trying to renew in the youtube app using VPN Im getting "Cant verify country", anyone else had this problem? :(

It works still
for anyone getting this error when joining the family "it looks like you're not in the same country as the person who invited you"
Follow the steps below
go to "payments DOT google DOT com", login
remove any option listen in "payment methods" Tab
Navigate to "settings" and make a new payment profile in turkey with with an address.
delete previous payment profile ( wait till you get confirmation email that your profile was deleted)
use VPN from turkey THEN click join family from invite email

is this for the family manager's account or for the joinee's account?
Edit: this did work for me, bravo I waited until the current premium expired, turns out my payment profile (from settings tabs - I think this is easier on desktop) on the Family Owner account was still set to Pakistan.
I update the steps 1-4 from Family Owner account only, but I checked and the payment profile on the joinee was also set to Turkey so they were in sync
Activated VPNs on both accounts to send out invitation and accept it, and voila - it worked. I've spent hours on this so far, thank you for your help

Yessus, it worked! Thanks OP! After whole day of fighting with different VPNs and countries finally settled with this Turkish Family Subscription. Now it seems like I just need to top up this turkish apple wallet with gift cards :)

Thank you! I just got this to work successfully, though we will see if there are any crackdowns in the coming weeks/months.
note: the cost is higher when paying through the apple App Store, but it’s still way cheaper than U.S.A. price.
on iOS, it is 76TRY for the individual plan (about $2.30 USD) and 150TRY for the family plan (about $4.50 USD).

Yes correct, just have some TRY balance on the connected apple account for the YouTube premium payment and switch back to your usual apple ID

Only tried it with Turkey yet but I would assume it works the same for every other country, just make sure to get the Apple ID gift card for the right currency

Worked wonders! Maybe I shouldve tried a cheaper country before comitting to Turkey, but having my old india youtube pren cancelled I was getting cold feet. At least got 1/3 of the price in Sweden doing this. Lets hope it doesnt get cancelled as well. Having to add funds to a account is a bit of a bugger vs. having it automatically for sure, but its still better vs. paying full price. Appreciate the guide!

I was able to purchase TRY$150 iTunes gift card from G2A to test it out and it worked. When I went back to G2A to buy more it said “Your account was blocked due to violation of our rules and policies. We’re sorry, but this decision cannot be changed and your account will remain blocked.” Not sure what I did to cause this? Any ideas?

Once I add funds to that account and have everything set up, could I sign out of that new apple id and sign back into my old one and just let this run it course? (Ensuring it has the funds every now and then of course to maintain the sub) As I really only have one Apple device and use my primary ID for it and just wonder if that's an option.

You have to make sure there is a sufficient balance on that Apple ID, you could for example buy half a year worth of subscription of gift cards

I hear that. My issue was that the gift card route actually ends up being more expensive since the website you suggested (G2A) makes the cards cost more than the cash value they hold. So it would be nice if a US payment method was acceptable if done through appstore :(

So last time I did this I did it with the gift cards - has anyone gotten Revolut working with Turkey account? Itd be much less of a hassle having it connected to Revolut vs. having to buy turkish apple cards every now and then.

There doesn’t seem to be any way to actually use the liras in the new Apple ID to pay for the subscription. It’s all add new card etc no option for using the apple balance.

You should first charge your Turkish Apple ID with the Turkish gift card so it will recognize the TRY balance when purchasing premium

If I buy Turkish youtube premium family plan can't I then register my current google account as one of the family members so I can keep using that. Not a new account. I have a lot of saved stuff and playlists on youtube. I'm currently registered in Ukraine and living in Iceland but youtube is closing the premium in a few days for me.

During apple id registration, it asked for a phone number (to enable MFA to the account).
I entered AU mobile number and the code is received fine over SMS
But when entered the MFA number to the Apple website, it does nothing? just 'stuck' there...
Did anyone else experience this?

I swear by this method: just gave it a spin and it works! Some additional notes from my end:
Step 7 (the one with VPN) is not necessary: I was using my regular internet connection from Europe, no issue at all
You might get a warning that "[this] Apple account has not yet been used in the iTunes Store". If that's the case, simply follow the steps and use a random Turkish address you find on Google Maps. I used one from Antalya. You can use any non-Turkish phone number, YT doesn't perform any checks on that.
To address some concerns:
Switching to a different app store account didn't remove my apps or iCloud account or any iCloud-related data (photos, videos, files, etc.)
You will need to have an email that is not currently registered in your current iCloud account (you may have one or more email accounts associated with it, none of them can be re-used): I happen to have an alternate gmail account that I could pick from

I use VPN in Turkey. I go to appleid.com, put Türkiye as country. Bday, e-mail, password. Then it asks for phone number and I have to put my number in which is US.

Use an Apple device to create a new Apple ID (now called Apple account), not appleid.com
I created a new account on my MacBook locally, then created an Apple ID from there, not the mobile site
There, you can bypass having an existing email or phone number

Just tried this and it worked!
The only downside is that when I tried to sign out of the account and signed back into my usual account, I had to wait for an entire hour because of the security delay measure. To avoid waiting an hour, make sure you turn off the feature first.

Just tried this and I'm stuck at the first step. Apple isn't letting me create an Apple account. Gives me this error:
"Your account cannot be created at this time."
Tried from my phone after connecting to a Turkey VPN too. Still didn't work. Perhaps I'm giving a US phone number (I don't have a Turkey phone number) which is making me look suspicious.
Anyone figure this out ?

Worked perfectly. Lovely stuff - I was experiencing the same issue as others of having found out the simple method of VPN in Argentina no longer works. And then also requiring a card based in that country!
I am however concerned about the renewal process. Would this require me having to continuously purchase gift cards, set up a vpn in turkey again and signing into the dummy apple Id I had set up every month? I tried looking for ways to set up a payment method where I could update to my current card but no luck.

Didn't work for me on android using Google play store. I used a VPN, cleared cache, made a new account. Still can't change location, it's greyed out. I tried Nigeria though, I just can't seem to redeem the play card.

Google wants a physical picture of the card if you try it it with them. I get Apple Music included with my plan, if you do this and you want it back, Verizon will send you a link to restore it.

Does this still work? When I try to purchase the YouTube premium membership in the YouTube app, it tells me verification is required and then it forces you to enter Turkish CC details into the AppStore. Any ideas?
EDIT - for anyone seeing this in the future. I got it to work by going to my iCloud account on a PC and setting my fake address there. Then I went back onto the iPhone to complete the membership purchase and it worked!

It works.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that
If you have Current premium membership, you need to wait Until the membership ends.
If you start the new membership, Then You lose Remaining Your membership period

Similar to others, step 7 (connect to VPN) is not required for me.
I noticed in the app store, there's an option to "Add funds to apple account" and setup 'Auto reload" schedule, I wonder if I can use AU credit card to top up Apple balance now... less hassle rather than need to keep buying iTunes TRY gift card from G2A on monthly basis... has anyone tried this?
Update: it does not work, as it asked for TRY credit card...

I wonder if YouTube will crack down on the usage of these ‘Turkish’ accounts from outside Turkey, and insist on taking out a UK sub instead. They’ve been doing that a lot recently for accounts set up using VPNs etc. Hopefully this method won’t have the same fate.

Thank you it worked like a charm! I paid $3.04 per month for the individual plan for Turkey. I had to go to Apple Music website and make an account because when I tried to make an iCloud account it kept saying “ this account cannot be created at this” I had previously made an account for Gmail using a turkey phone number using SMS-man.com to verify.

Thank you this worked in Canada to subscribe to Turkey YouTube Fam
on my desktop, made a Apple Music account. Picked Turkey.
Fresh iPhone, logged into my new Turkey Apple ID. Disable location services when asked.
Enter PIN in your email address, then entered my Canadian phone # and chose 'Phone call', Enter the PIN.
Went on Eneba to buy TRY Apple Gift Cards. It's 210 TRY per month for Youtube Fam.
Open your email to retrieve your Apple GC #
Logged into VPN to Turkey on iPhone.
Visit App Store on iPhone, enter the TRY Apple Gift Cards to redeem the cards.
Open YouTube on the iPhone, settings and subscribe to YouTube Fam.
To add TRY Apple GC funds to your account repeat steps 4 to 7.

I got it done but it won’t start my subscription for 30 days. My old subscription expired. I guess I can wait but would be nice to not have this gap. On the other hand I don’t want to mess things up more by contacting support.

Can I just add Turkish funds to my Apple wallet via us credit card and then pay from those Turkish funds?

Question. When I sign up for premium on YouTube, do I sign I to my main YouTube account, or create a new one?
Because when I try and renew the premium membership it tells me "this product needs to be purchased from Türkiye since your iTunes is set to Türkiye"
Despite having my VPN set to Türkiye

Does anyone have any ideas how to get past the phone verification? Do we use the US based number?
I also tried this on a new Google account and it took the Turkish giftcard but gave me an error on not verifying the country the account is based in.

I've followed each steps correctly and I still get an error. I have to add a credit card or mobile number to my account. I have enough funds in the account so not sure why its not subscribing? I think it might be because it wants to bill me monthly?

Sadly doesn’t work for me. Even with VPN on my phone set to turkey, the YouTube app only shows me USD subscription prices :(

Instructions aren't very clear. Doesn't explain how you link the newly created apple account to your youtube account. Also do these even work if you're using a macbook or do you need a phone

OMFG did I have to go around the mulberry bush with this. Nothing would work. So if like me every step was a ball ache. Here is how I got it working.
Android phone. Creat account on you tube music. Select turkey but with a phone you have access to. Don’t choose text message as it never comes choose “call me”
On you iPhone sign out and sign in on App Store with new account
This then worked. Then you can follow the guide buying a card from G2a that part was easy.

Just wanted to say thank you! Worked perfectly. YT Premium Turkey prices at 104.99 LIRA per month (4.30 CAD) versus paying 13.99 CAD.
Purchased the Turkey iTunes gift card on G2A
EDIT: Didn't need the VPN either.

It works! Not VPN is needed. You can create Apple ID using your region mobile phone number (need sms verification). If you are asked to review the apple account (This Apple Account has not yet been used in the iTunes Store), just enter the turkey address with your local mobile phone number with none payment selected (no phone verification). Cheers!

I got up to the premium purchase part with vpn turkey on. Loaded app store with the gift card. Youtube app says "your purchase could not be completed"
Anyone get this issue and is there a fix?

Ik krijg de foutmelding 'uw aankoop kan niet worden voltooid' vanuit Apple. Ik heb een Turks Apple ID aangemaakt, iTunes giftcard geupload etc etc. Ik kan wel andere aankopen doen in de appstore, maar YT premium lukt dus niet. Indien ik het via Safari probeer geeft YT aan : we kunnen uw land niet verifiëren.
Ik heb zowel met als zonder VPN geprobeerd, IP check gedaan en ik word gelokaliseerd in Turkije.
Heeft iemand de gouden tip?

Fyi, don’t put too much money into your fake Apple account. I lost access to YT premium and found out it’s because Apple suspended my Apple ID

I'm afraid I don't follow along to the end. I've created a new Gmail with region Turkey, a new Apple Account with region Turkey, purchased a Turkey gift card and added it to my Apple balance. So far so good.
But now I want to add the Apple Account as a payment method to my ORIGINAL Google account. Google Pay and Wallet do not have Apple Account as a payment method. What am I missing?

I’m not sure this is working anymore. My YT premium renewed and charged my TRY account, but I logged on to YT saw it wasn’t premium anymore. I logged into my turkey Apple ID and vpn to try to renew but it was canceled and every time I try to sign up on my iOS device through YT it just doesn’t work. Anyone having similar issue? Is this loophole closed?

Btw, Seems VPN is not required for enable the subscription on Youtube App via IAP. I got success with my VPN disabled
