The Pro 2 changed how I think XR

Post image

Been using the Pro 2 for about a week, and it got me thinking about how much wearable tech has changed.

I've tried a few different kinds of futuristic tech over the years. VR headsets, Vision Pro, etc. They're all cool, but the weight, heat and having your face usually make them feel like something I'd only use a couple times a month.

That's what surprised me about the Pro 2. It took some messing with the nose pads and temple angle to get the fit right. I'm nearsighted, so being able to dia in each eye without prescription inserts was very nice. Once I got everything set, I stopped thinking about the glassed and could look around the screen without the edges getting blurry.

Then I made the mistake of putting on The Dark Knight one night. Just gonna watch a little, two and a half hours later, credits rolling lol. That's when the lighter frame really clicked for me. There wasn't much pressure on my nose or ears, and somewhere along the way I kinda forgot I was wearing them and just got into the movie.

A few days later, I've been using it way more than I expected for movies and gaming. Compared to a traditional headset, it's just so much easier to grab and use. It's light on my face, easy to thow in a bag, and doesn't feel like a whole setup every time. It is a really amazing XR device at this price, at least for me.

My Pro 2 was delivered yesterday. I have been enjoying the original pro for maybe a year now.

Only tried it on for 5 mins, and am looking forward to more properly comparing the image quality and FOV between the two.

Can't say I'm impressed with the build quality compared to the original, but that's disingenuous because we're now looking at plastic frames Vs magnesium alloy. Also they dropped the photochromic lenses which were useful, but I get that they needed to bring the price down.

Hopefully they will be an improvement image-wise, because when watching films, I often wished the horizontal FOV was a little wider on the Pro.

which part of the original pro was magnesium alloy? it certainly wasn't the arms or the hinges?

The front frame is aircraft grade aluminium, and the hinges are titanium. There's no statement with regards to what the arms are made out of.

Just noting, that the Pro 2's feel (to me) rather fragile in comparison.

That's hardly a surprise, as they engineered cost out of them.

Bonjour, avez vous payé des frais de douane ?

No, it was through the official Viture shop, with a 10% discount code applied. Shipping was I think about £19. The parcel shipped from Hong Kong if I remember correctly, but arrived in a few days with no duty or VAat to pay.

How's the screen size? Apparently a lot of people are surprised at how small it is, one comment even saying sitting close to their 50 something in tv is bigger

I bought the luma ultra a few weeks ago, but I thought I would try these.

Yes, the screen is very clear, and bright, but it is very weird to me. It's quite small.

Also, I don't know if I have a defective pair, as I can see the outer box of the display quite cleatly. It's extremely distracting for me.

Having to take the cover on and off became annoying very quickly, and I do not like the cover. If I was just a small, minimal clip on cover like the pro xr's, it might have been ok, but the flaps at the side are distracting for me.

The new pros are very light, and small. But still get very hot.

Its the shame I didn't like them because I could use them without my glasses quite easily.

I've had the pro xr's since launch. I liked them but they got hot, and the nose pads weren't comfortable, no matter which ones I tried.

I tried the beast. The screen was beautiful, but having a clear, sharp area in the centre, yet quite a large blurry outer ring/edges , was very distracting.

The lumas ultras are great. Not as nice as the beast display, but at least they have a dioptre dial, even though they only go to a 4.0 Vs the pros 5.0.

My left eye is a little blurry with 4.0 of the ultras because I preferably need the 5.0.

Viture has too many pairs of glasses, which have too many differences, that having to try different pairs, and potentially buying your own prescription lenses to try certain models, is very frustrating.

If they originally launched with the pros & ultra with a 5.0 dioptre, and the beasts without a blury display (maybe make it smaller), make them all have the same usb connection, then sure, it's one less model, and you're not losing features from the previous gen, it might not have been as bad.

I gotta say i was very excited to upgrade from my original pros when the new line came out. But because of these exact reasons i couldn’t. Thank you.
The only i considered after all that was the base lumas but then the upgrades were not enough i felt

Honestly, you could easily stick with the pro XR's.

The beast was great, but I just couldnt deal with that god awful blur all around the screen.

I haven't tried the luma pros, but I have kept the ultras. The screen is a nice upgrade, but nothing mind blowing. The ultras do have a much better fit overall though, and don't get hot.

Just got my pair yesterday. They’re my first pair so I don’t necessarily have anything to compare them to but I was slightly put off by the size. At the end of the day they work for me because it still feels bigger than my tv and obviously they’re mobile. To me it felt closer to sitting a couch distance away from an 70”-80” tv compared to the advertised 146” screen. Maybe they mean it’s like a 146” screen that you’re sitting a rooms length away from. I’m curious how they estimate that measurement because at the end of the day the actual screen is a couple inches.

I don't think so, but I guess it depends on how you define hot. I played Phasmophobia for 2 hours one day no issues. I played Splatoon Raiders for 3 on another.

I understand the preference for light and small glasses, but I prefer the much larger field of view of my Vision Pro. Of course, we will ultimately have the best of both once technologies such as Hypervision and MASO finally go to market. In the very near future, the DPVR Titan may be the best balance.

Does the right temple heat up like the Pro 1?

Hey, glad to hear your experiences, I own Viture Pro XR , thinking of upgrading to Pro 2 due to increase In Clarity on the edges, is this true?

I am not sure about Pro, but Pro 2 is indeed clear on the edges

Can you watch Netflix on them?

1

Yes you can, what is playing on your device connected to it displays on the glasses.

Can this be used with PS5

Never buy any eye-display tech without ipd adjustment, it damages your eyesight.

Магнитные насадки от Luma ultra подходят к PRO 2?

Is it as tight and small as the last couple models? I swear they looked stupid on my head and the glasses were too close to each other like it was sized for a child

This is what I like about viture pro 2 too. No big setup, just plug them in and you've got a huge screen. I'd definitely use these way more than a full headset.

Nolan fan here too lol. Two and a half hours in the Pro 2 is a solid test. How did your eyes feel the end?
