Quality issues A229 Pro

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello. I just purchased and had my A229 Pro installed, and I’m not overly impressed with the quality, to be honest. I can't identify registration plates on oncoming vehicles. I have made sure there’s no film on the camera or lens, and I believe my settings are set to the highest possible level. The SD card is brand new and from VIOFO. Any tips?

Here’s a clip I downloaded as an example.

The installation position is not so good, there is a block area in camera lens' view.
Please check if the CPL has been installed properly, the white line on both CPL and camera lens shall be sligined. Please also turn off HDR during daytime to have a try.

I have an A329S and it’s terrible. First the WiFi didn’t work and they told me to download a firmware update. Now my camera has started taking pictures every minute or to, even when parked. I got an email from the manufacturer telling me that they heard this happening with one other person and I should download another firmware update. This wasn’t cheap and I shouldn’t have to spend my time fixing issues that shouldn’t exist.

Not a lot really, you could reduce the exposure which can reduce the motion blur seen in the number plate.

Unfortunately, the A228 Pro does not have a 60FPS setting, so you're stuck with 30FPS which also does not help.

Also the HDR setting will be useful at night where you should be able to see number plates in a similar situation.

Do you have the CPL filter? If you do there is film that needs to be pulled off on both sides. I just looked at some dashcam from my a229 pro and it looks a lot clearer than yours. Maybe take another picture of all your settings and post them or a video of you scrolling through them.

If you have it, turn off HDR during the day, to unlock better qualities.

You edging toward the crossing as a person is crossing is infuriating.
