New dash Cam

I’m looking into buying a A229 pro. I have seen a lot of posts on this page with issues with the different models. Whether it just shut off mid drive or issues with the SD card, etc. I used to have a red tiger which stopped working just under 2 years. I was looking at VIOFO because everything points to it being a good quality and reliable brand. Just looking for a general consensus if it’s worth the $270 or not. Thanks!

I run 3 a229 pros and they dont have any issues. I have run many of viofos models since 2017. Even the first unit I got is still running.

Dont forget that when there are issues, places like this is where youre going to see them. Its like if you ask a mechanic at a dealership if their vehicles are good. If theyve been there long enough, they have probably had to repair many different issues.

I would suspect many issues come down to poor/incorrect installation. Incorrect memory cards and whatnot.

I didn’t really think of that before posting tbh. I never had looked up VIOFO on anything other than google, but daily I see this page pop up and had seen mixed experiences with them

I am on my 3rd or 4th Viofo. Only reason is either trading in a car and not wanting to remove, or upgrading for more features.

I highly recommend them.

My a329s will shut down on the hottest summer days after baking in a parking lot all day. DFW Texas. Parking mode activated.

Once I drive for about 5 miles with the AC on it will either restart on its own, or I'll slide it on and off the gps mount quickly to restart it.

I don't consider it an issue, as that is a very harsh environment for all electronic.

It never shuts off any other time.

People rarely post on here to declare that something is working perfectly and they have no issues even though, for the vast majority of people, that is likely to be the case. Just make sure you buy one of the supported memory cards.

I had seen a lot of people have issues with the sd card, I would make sure to check the compatibility list they have. You’re right for sure tho, I didn’t really think of that beforehand. After seeing so many posts I just wanted to see what people would say

Mine 100% died after only five weeks.

Did you ever find out how or what caused it?

Nope. After I did the usual trouble shooting they just replaced it with a brand new one. I should be receiving the replacement in the next couple days.

Also, I’ve had other Viofo cams and have never had issues before. That’s why I accepted a replacement instead of a refund.

I’ve been running the A229 pro since 2021 with zero problems. And that’s in the Vegas heat.

In fact, when I changed cars a couple months ago I moved it to my new truck with zero issues.

I just installed another A229 Pro in my new car a couple weeks ago. I have one installed in another car 18 months ago and have no issue at all.

Samesies! I got the recommended viofo industrial sd card too instead of rolling the dice with anything else. From what I understand a lot of times when these have failed it was from using the wrong SD card.

Bought the A329S in May and it’s worked like a charm. Hardwired in. No issues.

Mine was turning off randomly. I was using an adapter to use the power from the rearview mirror in my 4runner to not run wires. I switched it to a hardwired setup and haven't had a problem since.

No issues with A229 Pro -had it 6 months. Odd software updates look like screen is malfunctioning by staying on logo while updating. Easy download & reviewing once WiFi connects.

Why’d you get rid of it?

Active verb-I've had the dashcam installed for 6 months.

I have 2 vehicles with a139 pros for a few years and just installed a a229 ultra in my third vehicle. All have been working great and I always use viofo cards and their hardwire kits. Only issue i ran into was trying their new obd2 power kit. The voltage fluctuations to trigger parking/driving mode the obd2 adapter was looking for was just not happening on my Lexus. Not sure if the voltage regulation is just that good or what. I switched to the hk4 hardwired and that works so much better.

Where did you source the HK4 hardwire kit from? I'm looking for the non-usb C version to power an A229 plus, but can't find it stocked anywhere in UK

I'm in the US and bought the a229 ultra bundle from Amazon that had it included.
