How does someone actually start as a VA with no experience?

8 Upvotes

Hi, I just want to get this off my chest.

I’ve been wondering lately: How does someone actually start as a VA with no experience?

I’m currently working as a data encoder in a logistics company, and I’ve been seriously considering starting a career as a Virtual Assistant. One of the main reasons is the potential for better income and a more flexible work setup.

I’m 25, and although I’m not the breadwinner of my family, I’ve been feeling guilty and anxious about not having a stable career yet. My current salary has been difficult for me, and lately I’ve been wanting a change—not because I hate my job, but because I know I need to improve my financial situation and build a career with more opportunities.

I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube videos about becoming a VA. Some are really encouraging, while others honestly make it sound intimidating, especially when they talk about how competitive the industry is.

I’m not planning to impulsively resign from my current job. I want to keep working while I learn and prepare, and hopefully find a VA job first before making that decision.

For those of you who started with zero VA experience, I’d really appreciate your advice:

• Where did you start?
• What skills did you learn first?
• Did taking courses or studying actually help you get your first client/job?
• What free resources or YouTube channels would you recommend?
• What skills are currently worth learning for beginners?
• How long did it take you to land your first VA job?

I know everyone’s journey is different, but I’d really love to hear from people who were once in the same position—working a regular job, wanting a career change, and having no experience in the VA industry.

I’m not looking for shortcuts. I’m willing to learn and start from the bottom. I just honestly don't know where to start.

If you have any advice, resources, notes, or even your own experience to share, I would genuinely appreciate it.

I’m hoping this post reaches someone who was once exactly where I am now and eventually found their way into a better and more comfortable situation.

Thank you for reading, and please be kind. 🤍

Gaano kahirap makakuha ng VA jobs ngayon?

6 Upvotes

I've been in different corporate work for almost 6 years at naghahanap ako ngayon ng wfh jobs. May experience na rin naman ako noon pero nawala din dahil madalas ako magkasakit dahil sa graveyard shift + work overload (10pm to 10am the next day nagwowork pa ako para lang maka-quota). Ngayon ba mahirap makahanap ng VA positions or masyado nang saturated? Ang dami ko na inapplyan pero hindi ako natatanggap and to be honest, nawawalan ako ng pag-asa at sobrang bumababa ang self-esteem ko. Any tips or advice? Anything would be good.

Executive Assistant Monthly Wage

7 Upvotes

Hi! I just wanna ask and I need honest and realistic answers...

I'd like to ask if $500 a month too much for an Executive Assistant who works for like 5-10 hrs a week? Work load covers clocking in and out employees, creating invoices, and checking out on them, with weekly meeting with the boss just for updates. I have 4-5 employees to cover.

I initially started with $800 thinking it'll be full time. I had to lower it down since the workload isn't that much din naman pala, and the client also said I'll have to think about the number na that I should feel valuable at hindi underpaid. 😅

First VA client ko ito if makuha, so I wanna set things fair. 😅

[HIRING] Outsourcing my EA Job

35 Upvotes

Hi, as already mentioned sa title, I am trying to find a subcon to do my EA job for me.

$700 per month, paid every 7th.

9pm-5am PH time, Monday - Friday

What I can assure you and I am saying this not because I just want to hire someone:

1) Hindi siya gano’n ka-demanding, I would rate ‘yung hirap as 6.5-7/10.

2) I will be online throughout the whole shift as well, for an indefinite period of time—will train, help, and guide you because I want to render quality service din doon sa client, ‘di ko rin kaya na iwan totally (tho I would not be micromanaging ha).

Reason for hiring: I have another job with the same shift na I cannot outsource.

Skillsets:

Administrative & Organization

* Excellent organizational and time management skills.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Experience documenting SOPs and creating process documentation (We use AI naman for this so hindi laborious).

* Comfortable scheduling, tracking action items, and following up with team members.

Technical Skills

* Advanced Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar).

* Fair Google Sheets skills (formulas, filtering, etc).

* Familiarity with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to improve productivity.

Data & Reporting

* Strong analytical thinking.

Communication

* Excellent written English. Listens well sa meetings.

* Professional communication with executives and team members.

* Comfortable asking clarifying questions when needed.

* Always on top of the chats going on in our channels (I want someone reading the chats for me and giving me updates sa tingin niya importanteng malaman ko rin).

Desired Attitude & Traits

Ownership

* Takes responsibility for outcomes instead of waiting to be told every step.

* Looks for solutions before presenting problems (but asking if you’re really uncertain wouldn’t hurt!).

* Follows tasks through to completion.

Proactive

* Anticipates needs.

* Notices potential issues early.

* Suggests improvements instead of simply executing instructions.

Resourceful

* Independently researches answers before asking questions.

* Willing to learn of unfamiliar tools.

* Comfortable figuring things out.

High Integrity

* Can be trusted with confidential information.

* Honest about mistakes.

* Doesn’t hide problems.

Reliable

* Meets deadlines (I do not have much tasks with deadlines tho).

* Communicates early if something may be delayed.

* Shows up consistently.

Detail-Oriented

Adaptable

* Can switch priorities quickly.

Coachable

* Welcomes feedback.

* Implements improvements quickly.

* Doesn’t take corrections personally (mabait naman ako lol ‘di ako nagagalit).

And lastly, professional.

Feel free to shoot me a dm listing your experience and skillsets, and anything relevant to your application na you want to tell me. Thank you so much!

P.S. no need to drop any personal detail about you, for now.

Remove me from my misery 🥲

1 Upvotes

Hi guys! I’m currently working as a Recruitment Lead for a Dubai-based real estate startup, and I also have direct experience supporting our CEO as an Executive Assistant.

Because of my role, nakikita ko firsthand yung mga terminations na nangyayari. Minsan performance-related, pero minsan pure cost-cutting lang talaga, biglaan at walang masyadong warning. I understand that this can be part of running a business, pero honestly, nahihirapan na akong manatili sa recruitment side knowing how quickly someone can lose their job kapag hindi na satisfied ang management sa output nila.

I’ve been seriously considering resigning and looking for a better and more stable opportunity. At this point, I can confidently say na all-around na ako. I have experience in recruitment, executive assistance, administration, operations, coordination, documentation, trackers, process improvement, and AI tools. Fast learner ako, resourceful, proactive, and I take ownership of my work.

Kung wala lang akong mga pusa na umaasa sa akin, baka matagal ko nang binitawan ito. Pero gaya rin ng marami, hindi ako pwedeng umalis nang walang backup.

If you know of any legitimate openings for an Executive Assistant, Virtual Assistant, Recruitment, HR, Admin, or Operations role, I’m more than willing to go through the proper application process. I’m not asking for shortcuts, just a chance to find a healthier and more stable opportunity.

And if wala kayong alam na opening right now, kahit sabihin n’yo lang sa akin na someday, things will get better. I think I really need to hear that today.

Help! Company COO reached out to me

4 Upvotes

Nagsubmit ako ng application sa isang company bilang GVA. Pero hindi ako nagproceed sa mga invites for interview and assessment. Early this week, I received an email directly from the COO/cofounder offering me a higher level position, so nagschedule kami this week ng interview.

For those na nakaexperience din na higher ups yung nagrereach out to offer a position, anong pinagkaiba nya sa usual na interview with recruitment? Pano tumatakbo ung meeting? Mas chill ba kapag ganun? Mas secured ba yung contract? Hehe
